The whole Bay date rape storyline was disgusting

So the only way Bay could have sex with Tank is if he raped her?

There's abuse on both ends when people go overboard with the word rape. It's very powerful to be thrown around when a girl has a fight with her boyfriend and then gets drunk and has sex.

I thought it was a horrible way to look at the issue.

I have been with a girl and she kissed me and I said no because I have a girlfriend and she still kissed me and we had sex. Was I raped because I said no?

The point is, it's a very serious issue and I think it could have been handled in a better and more serious way.

This type of nonsense is troubling to say the least.

Women say they want to be treated like men. Well, many women take advantage of men when they're drunk and have beer googles on. Women they wouldn't sleep with when they're sober, they sleep with when they're drunk.

So everytime a woman sleeps with a man that's drunk who wouldn't sleep with her when he was sober is being raped by the woman?

GIVE ME A DAMN BREAK!!

I am a woman, and I agree with you.

The sad thing is that I do believe the people who disagree with us have good intentions. Like us, they care about society. Some of them are even my friends.

They think our point of view is gross, but I think their point of view is gross.

It turns my stomach and makes me sick, just like they say that my point of view does to them.

Females are not weak. We do not need special "consent" laws to protect us, when we choose to drink alcohol. The thought of that makes me want to vomit.

Women are just as capable as men. If a man can drink alcohol and be responsible for what he chooses to do with his penis, then a woman can drink alcohol and be responsible for what she chooses to do with her vagina.

We already have laws in place that say a man or a woman who is unconscious due to their alcohol consumption is off-limits for sex, and I fully support those laws.

I support laws that state people who are unable to formulate sentences are off-limits for sex, too. But that wasn't Bay.

Bay was formulating sentences just fine. She invited Tank into that bed with her. She wanted his emotional comfort, and she had sent him signals all evening that she wanted his physical comfort, too. For society to say that Bay is unable to consent because she had consumed alcohol is lunacy.

If Bay had changed her mind at any time, then she could have said "no" and Tank would have stopped. Even in her own memory of the events, Bay was able to say to Tank, "Oh, wait. You gotta see this. Come here." And after Bay and Tank had looked at the ceiling stars from bed, Bay followed up those words with, "Thanks for being my friend tonight. I don't know what's gonna happen with me and Emmett. He's so far, and I'm so far. We're both just so far."

After that bit of information, when Tank told Bay she is beautiful, she giggled and said, "Thanks."

If Bay didn't want to have sex with Tank, then she was capable of saying the words "no" or "stop." Bay didn't choose to do so.

If Bay was not capable of saying "no," if she was in a state where she could string together all of those other sentences, but she didn't have the wherewithal to tell Tank "no," then that's too bad for her. But it's also part of life. It is Bay's responsibility. It is her fault.

Bay knowingly and willfully chose to take the risk of lessening her inhibitions and clouding her judgment with alcohol. The rest of society should not need to treat Bay with kid gloves, because she chose to do so. It's not the responsibility of the people around Bay to make sure she doesn't engage in behavior that she might regret the next day. If Bay can speak in complete sentences, but she is too drunk to be smart enough to spit out the word "no," when she doesn't want to have sex, then that's her own tough luck.

The responsibility should NOT fall to the drunk guy to be required to say to himself, "Well, she's acting like she wants to have sex with me, and she seems into it. She's certainly not telling me "no" in any way. But, since she's got a buzz, I better walk away and not have sex with her, even though it seems like we both really want to do it and it would be fun."

Why should all drunk women be off limits to all drunk men (and vice versa), just because a handful of drunk women (or men) might wake up the next day and regret that they didn't think to say "no."

Bay knowingly and willingly chose to consume that alcohol. Society should not create special laws to protect women as if we are fragile hot-house flowers. It's insulting.

I'm sure plenty of men wake up after a bender and regret that they didn't say "no" to drunken sex, too. But I don't see any of those men telling a Title IX investigator that the woman should have walked away from him.

Simone was begging Toby to come to her hotel room and have sex with her. When he said "no," she offered a 16 year old Emmett some vodka, to soothe the pain of his injured hand. Simone told Wilke that she and Emmett were both drunk that night. I'm sure Emmett woke up believing that he wouldn't have been stupid enough to have sex with Simone, if he hadn't drank that vodka. But Emmett didn't blame Simone for not walking away from him. It would have been idiotic if he had.

Bay shouldn't blame Tank for not walking away from her either.

Society outlawing sex for all people under the influence of alcohol is taking things too far.

EXCELLENT POST!

BRAVO!!!

You can't say Tank raped her because he should have known Bay didn't want to have sex with him. If these ASININE rules were the norm then every female that feels bad after a drunk hook up the next day can yell rape. That word is too powerful to be used in such a flimsy way.

This was handled MUCH better on 90210 in Season 4 when Kelly spoke out at rally about rape and how she had almost been assaulted and saved but many times before that she had gotten drunk and things happened and she had to take responsibility for putting herself in that position.

I think what touched a cord in the girl that was accusing Steve of rape (even though it clearly was not as she was practically stalking him for days afterwards acting all giddy and lovesick and didn't make a rape accusation until Steve told her he had a girlfriend) ....was when Kelly said "I didn't say yes but I didn't say no either".

You sound very flippant. And I hope your girlfriend finds out you cheated on her.

Come on he raped her, it sounded like she was so drunk she didn't move. That's why the girl always has to start on top, if she does the cowgirl, she's sober and game. The show shined a light on that if a girl or boy is too drunk to consent, it doesn't matter how they dressed, flirted and so on, it's just a no-go.

Now I do hate the show, for using Tank to show this point, because I really liked his character and thought they should have kept him as a good guy.
