Why are they ruining Emmett

This makes no sense

What do you mean?

I remember very few people liked him before the previous season ended.

Emmett was a great character in the first season but grew too popular among the fans. More popular than Daphne. Somehow in the real world having an actor more popular than the actress playing a main character bruised some egos. Since then Emmett has been made to look unpopular and they tried to make Daphne popular, but that failed miserably.

Are you suggesting that people with depression are somehow ruined?

It's not Emmett's depression that ruins his character. It is the fact that he regrets the good decisions he made during his time in LA.

Emmett's sophomore year in college appears to have been a bad experience, but he was an excellent student during his freshman year. I hate to see Emmett regret the good decisions that he made then.

Emmett was right to end things with Bay. They had grown apart. He was right to date Skye. They were happy together for a while. And Emmett was right to let Bay go. Melody herself gave Emmett that advice, and it was sound.

Emmett can be depressed. Emmett can even be weak and needy, without being ruined as a character, but does Emmett have to be weak and needy for Bay? It humiliates him as a character.

Bay should not have been called when Emmett overdosed. She had not been his girlfriend for nearly two years. She was living with another man in China. Why did Regina even call her? It's weird to see Bay rush back for Emmett. He is not a member of her family, something Bay and the writers have made abundantly clear to viewers for all four of the previous seasons.

For the last couple of seasons, Switched at Birth's writers have created stories that are like fingernails on a chalkboard. I guess that is what they are trying to do to be cutting edge. I don't find it entertaining, though. It's just uncomfortable. I miss the first two seasons.

I understand your post but I think Emmett thinking of Bay/not letting go off her at the moment while he is battling possible depression seems valid. He is thinking of a time when he was truly happy and how he ruined it or rather the situation was ruined.

Your post can be explored with him telling her about his illness, and connecting the dots that he maybe just looking for happier times. Of course by the time that happens Bay will blow up her relationship with Travis, and be alone.

And what fresh Hell is this?, Malory from Archer(Dorothy Parker)
