Beyond the final scene (SPOILERS)....

I am curious whether people feel they stayed together, in the end. Obviously, they had grown apart over the years and trying so hard to be together had drained a lot of their passion for each other.

In some ways, the end scene (with flashbacks of happier times) can be seen as what happens to most relationships, in the end. Depressingly, the passion and raw romance of the past is replaced by ho-hum feelings and complacency. That's one way to read it, though this is the most cynical of interpretations.

Anyway, regardless of what you think of the ending, I think the film is one of the more true and heartbreaking looks at long-distance relationships (or any relationship where you're apart from that person for a long time). I have been in a few LD relationships and the moment on the train....where he's there and then she's staring at a blank space, when he's gone a minute later....that really got to me...because I have lived that exact moment.

Great film....though extremely depressing.

I think it's odd to shower with someone you're not in a relationship with. That seemed a bit odd to me. But I digress. I imagine they stayed together. No reason they wouldn't have. Their other relationships were over and they were married to each other. Not like their feelings went away. And they have this sort of unhealthy need for one another. It's like she said. When they're not together it's like they're on vacation. Just waiting til they can be together once again.

Reality is a lovely place, but I wouldn't want to live there.

In my opinion, I felt that they stayed together. Thinking back on those memories of when they first met, could have been taken as a reminder of why they fell in love with each other. Over the years, they went through so much that problems were created. No matter what they went through, like with the side relationships, they always felt that need to want to be together.

This movie really does show a great example how it feels to be in this type of relationship. It brought back memories for me. And I agree with you on the train scene. All these feelings came pouring in when I saw it.

I just saw this on a cable station [note to all: I am on a cruise ship, that was what I was just referring to]. The shower scene was very confusing a bit.

Yes, heartbreaking, yes. Yes, romantic, yes. But also, as moviefool09 said, excelent film, and found it addicting over time...and I think they would have stayed together..just an open end in the shower, not even an EPIOLGUE or subtitle..

What do you get when have Anton Yechtin?, Felicity Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, Steeve Carrell, Julianne Moore, EMma Stone, Marisa Tomei, and Ryan Gosling in the same movie? Answer: Like Crazy, stupid, love.See ya!

See, i've posted my feelings on the topic before.. My wife and i came out
of the movie with absolutely no doubt that the relationship was done.

She was pregnant with the other guys baby. I don't understand why more people
didn't 'get' that element. There was a scene right near the end that, to us,
seemed to strongly imply she was experiencing morning sickness.

It was over between them.

She wasn't pregnant. You're reading WAY too much into that. She wasn't even showing a bump.

I think they end up sticking it out. The memories of why they fell in love with each other come flooding back. Obviously they have to work through some things but I think the impression is they will try.

When they were together it was obvious they were a better match for each other than they were with the others. They went through hell and high water to be with each other including sending their lovers packing. Obviously there is a bond between them.
