Anyone prefer Samantha and Simon?

I never bought the leads together or the ending with Anna moving to the US. I like to think they realized their other partners were better for them. People complain that Simon was too controlling but really what did he do? Want her to drink less so she would be healthier? So what. He seemed like a successful nice, much more attractive guy. Meanwhile Jacob wouldn't sacrifice a thing about his life hardly for someone he supposedly loved and yelled at her for nothing. And Sam was so sweet and a total doormat. What a shame. I like to think in the end they both go back to them.

Uh no, Simon was a jerk who made her go on a diet and exercise at 6:30 AM, and he wanted to get married after 6 months, would you want to be with him? and Sam barely ever talked at all, we new pretty much nothing about her

YES

I don't really prefer Samantha and Simon. Clearly there was a strong love between Jacob and Anna. I didn't always like Jacob's behavior, but the point was that Anna loved him. He wasn't abusive or anything like that, and both he and Anna ended up showing that they had a bit of trust issues (which is probably pretty understandable in such a long distance relationship). Personally I could see Jacob happy with Samantha, but I couldn't really see Anna happy with Simon. However, I guess that may be the point. The connection Jacob and Anna had was greater, but it was no longer the same. I thought the ending was rather ambiguous. I guess she moved to the US or was in the process of doing so since she was looking at job possibilities? However, not even 5 minutes before he got Anna, Sam was still at his place. Also there was clearly a look at the ending of the film that suggested, at least to me, that everything was no longer the same and it still wouldn't work out. I thought the ending was really ambiguous. It really didn't tell us if they stayed together or not. Reminded me exactly of the ending to The Graduate.

Sam didn't say much in the movie; the implication of course being that the details of Sam and Jacob's relationship were immaterial to the film(not necessarily that she wasn't much of a talker which I didn't think to be the case). Fair enough, but you don't really get to know her at all then. The little that you saw was that she was a sweet girl that cared about him. I liked what I saw.

I hated Simon. Who is so emotionally shallow to not notice that your girlfriend has reserved feelings for someone else and then proposes to her in front of her parents after 6 months after giving the dumbest speech? Or maybe even worse he actually did see her reservations and intentionally put the added pressure of the parents in order to try to get what he wanted. Either way I didn't like anything about his character.
