both films' endings were ambiguous and had the same type of "what now/are we still in love" theme

True, but the couple in The Graduate were not married to each other.

Since Anton Yelchin passed, I have been going through his films. Just came here to say more or less the same thing. I love that after all of their efforts to be together, it really does end on such an unknown note. A simpler film would just have it be some simple saccharine ode to true love. Instead, we very much get a feeling of "what now". Well said.

Thanks! Happy to see other people getting the same impression out of the ending. It's so similar to The Graduate's.
Sad to see Anton pass. What a talent.
