Does anyone think Jacob was a jackass?

I mean, he was suposxedly in love with Anna, but love requires sacrifice, and he wasn't open to it. Hw was a complete douche bag, I mean:

1. He said he loved Anna, but he didnt´t move to England. Anna had a job she loved, he could have made his furniture everywhere, he didn't have to be in California for that.

2. He lived with Sam and at the same time he had a long distance relationship with Anna.

3. He treated Sam like crap, he threw her to the trash TWICE!, although I admit she was guilty too for let that happen.

4. He did his jelousy scene with the dude upstairs, but he was with the two girls at the same time. What a hipocrat!

While I understand where you're coming from, I'd have to disagree for the most part.

1. Just because he didn't move to England didn't mean he didn't love Anna, moving to a different country would be a monumental life decision for anyone to make, let alone someone just out of college. Anna didn't get the job until after she violated her visa. If she had been allowed in the country, I think she would have moved there, and never gotten the magazine job to begin with. Neither of them should be faulted for not moving to the other's country, but Anna obviously hurt herself by violating the visa.

2. Clearly both of them weren't abiding by the relationship. It just seemed to dissolve, so I don't think Jacob should be faulted by that. They may not have said it, but I think they both knew it was over at the time.

3. I do agree with you on that, that was bad writing and didn't shine a good light on Jacob.

4. He was hypocritical, but that doesn't make him a jackass. That just makes him someone really struggling with the situation, and not handling it well. He was in pain, and reacted poorly. Was it right, no. But that's part of the point of the movie, they are both so torn by the distance.

Agreed with the OP, but then agreed with you more.

Totally agree!

About 4.

At least he told Anna about Sam.

Anna didn't tell him about the man upstairs...who's the hypocrite?

reply

He did not really tell Anna about Sam.
He neglected that relationship even when it became obvious that it wasn't over, as he pretended.
But at the same time, he was accusing Anna of cheating on him ... now that's hippocratic as fμck.

Anna, however, just didn't tell anything because they both didn't really want to know anything.
That's not totally honest, but at least it's comprehensible.
