The cell phone in the Ritz's bathroom...
The scene where Diana leaves her cell phone in her bathroom at The Ritz in Paris, is shown twice in the movie. Once in the beginning, and once in the end. Then we see that scene of her and Dodi in the elevator, and hear the phone ringing with Hasnat on the other end, while they are in the lift. Are they trying to imply that this terrible tragedy hinged on Diana's decision not to take her phone? We know from what emerged later on, it was going to be a brief visit to Dodi's apartment, to pick up some presents that had been left there, as Diana was returning to London the next day. In addition to this, it also emerged later, that Mohammed el Fayed (Dodi's father) suggested Diana remain in the hotel, and Dodi go there alone with his security team, as he thought that was sufficient, in order to avoid the yearning of the paparazzi camped outside The Ritz all day. Could that fateful evening in Paris have just been one like normal, if Diana had heard another affirmation of Hasnat's love for her? We will never know.
