I was lucky enough to see the NYC premiere of this film at the Museum of Modern Art and hear the filmmaker discuss it.
I hope it gets widely distributed and makes the film festival circuit.
I thought it was really original and funny. The main actor was so well cast.
I saw this movie on cable last night, and even though I do not speak French, and I usually don't enjoy sub-title movies, this film was just delightful. I laughed and even cried a little at the emotions of the movie, felt for all of Starbuck's "children", and thought the ending was great. Well worth a look.

This film was a HUGE hit at the Palm Springs Film Festival in Jan. This is the only foreign film that I ever saw that I said should be remade in English. And sure enough it is getting that treatment. I only hope that the film isn't overly loaded with stars. It only needs the lead to be famous otherwise the known supporting players will overshadow the lead and that will distract from the story. If you can see this film in French by all means do so. It is TERRIFIC.

shareI think the film was brilliant and the actors played their part perfectly. It doesn't need an English remake, you just need subtitles. An English remake would probably not turn out as good and the comedy would be too exaggerated.
shareSo it this morning on BluRay when pain was too great to allow me to sleep! It kept me in stitches with laughter n tears. Anyone growing up as a only child without a father would shed a tear or 3 as this movie was wonderful - every child's dream of an absent - T father coming forth even if it took this style of self awareness! Many said it was over acted - utter nonsense in my eyes an less it would not have the appealing charm that shines all the way through this master piece! I don't like reading movies n did not know I would have to but from the first scene when trying to find the English track sucked me in and that was it!!!!
I am sorry to hear Vince is talking to remake this as there are only a few of his movies I have enjoyed without thinking his characters a JERK! I don't believe it needs to be remade!
BTW that was not French LOL Québec, Canadian French is a whole different Language, or at least to me. It didn't matter too old to remember High School French anyway!!!! A great read nevertheless!
