Dog nearly drowns to save money.

And thus ends the careers of Animal Trainer Raymond W. Beal and Brian Turi.
The scene as filmed required a dog to swim in turbulent water. Normally the water would be disturbed by the special effects crew while a diver assisted, and via post effects and clever editing would make the scene look very chaotic. A water mist would be sprayed into a fan to produce the desired effect.
Whether due to lack of talent or deliberate stupidity, the director, special effects team and the animal wrangler and producers allowed the animal to be forced into dangerous water which drove the animal under while it fought in vain for its life before being pulled out at the last moment.
This crew violated standard ethics by doing so.

It should be made clear that no motion pictures are made this way and it brings shame to the industry. This is a unique, disgusting case and anyone who's name is attached to this picture should not be hired again for any reason.

I agree, it's disgusting and so very disappointing. Animal abuse is NEVER ok.

If the dog survived then it didn't fight in vain, now did it?

There was no actual shot of the dog being forced into the water. The dog was first shown to take a little dip then pulled up by its trainer. Then next shot it was already in the water.

TMZ updated the story to confirm that those were indeed 2 separate shots.

Mr Hallstrom would never torture an animal, this is all hoax, both him and his lovely wife are tremendeous human beings.

You have nothing to worry about.

Or give me a break. The dog was clearly held by the trainer in a non forceful way. He was not hitting the dog or screaming at it. He lowered the dog slowly (got it's tail wet) and then pulled him/her up quickly to get some comfort. Then lowered again gently into the water. He didn't just chuck the animal in. There were also trainers in the water to help the dog.

Give me a break. I've seen Cesar Milan do very similar tactics (if not tossing them into the water to help them overcome fear) and nobody complains.

Basically this is another case of a bunch of liberal douchebags whining about something on the media.

Exactly. Now here's an actual clip of a dog being thrown into water and it didn't even seem that bothered: https://youtu.be/W5m4uGJv1ss?t=388

These animal-loving bleeding hearts love exaggerating the harm being done to animals. I've lost count of the number of YouTube videos where there was at least one hypersensitive commenter accusing the owner of abuse, because the dog trembled for a second, made a weird noise or tilted its ears at a wrong angle.
