Did anybody think...*spoilers*

...that Cillian Murphy's character really was a psychic when he said it early on in the movie? I did, and after realizing all the phenomena was happening around him, I saw the end coming a mile away. These twist endings are getting less...twisty.

reply

There was no "twist" ending, simply a confirmation of suspicion. The entire ending was predictable and phony.

Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

reply

I didn't find it predictable at all, I was expected an intelligent explanation.

I didn't get it when Buckley admitted to being psychic. I though he was just joking. Needless to say, the twist caught me by surprise.

reply

No, I didn't believe that he was psychic and I didn't see the end coming. The way that scene was presented, I just got the hint that Matheson always acts the same way when she's ganged up on and he's heard her use that 'dog with a bone' analogy several times. The way he said 'I'm psychic' was sarcastic. He didn't even believe it himself at the time.

I actually was on the idea Silver's fem assistant was the real psychic and Silver was just the frontman.
While it did surprise me they went with Murphy being the psychic, it didn't impress me with its direction.

It was exactly at the moment Cillian's character said "I'm psychic" that my brain said "badda bing!" :) And I knew...

Although he said it "off the cuff" and maybe a bit "tongue in cheek" - he's so good at displaying emotions with his face. Regardless of what some of the other people said in another thread, he really is a fabulous actor. Anyone who can show me what they're conveying with a mere, every-so-slight facial expression gets my vote every time. Ellen Burstyn is another actor who is great with just a facial expression.

Cillian stole this movie. In my opinion; he owned it, and it was beautiful. I rarely watch a movie twice and I watched this one back to back..

I doubt if anyone really saw it coming. Many took a leap of faith about it so it's easy for some to think they "knew" it all along but the film did a good job of directing suspicion away from Tom. If anything it was made to look as if Silver had some kind of bond with Murphy and was haunting and daring him. I actually thought it might have been either the young student or Silver's assistant who actually had psychic or telekinetic abilities. Then I began to think Tom had latent abilities that Silver had grappled onto psychically and was trying to awaken but in the end it looks like Tom manifested his strongest powers through his emotions rather than intentionally (dead birds, explosions). The ending was convincing but the movie overall was a bit tedious. DeNiro was terrible. He's a great actor but every role isn't necessarily for him.

reply

No, I didn't see that coming but it didn't impress me either when it was finally revealed who was the real psychic. It just seemed stupid.

reply

Didn't see Tom actually being psychic but knew straightaway Silver most absolutely wasn't blind... and by extension not psychic either!

When Cillian's charcater (Tom) is having a lucid dream and is floating above himself, this is a telling moment. He is looking down at himself, dressed in a dark suit, much like the one Silver wears. I think that moment, if any would have given a hint that he has esp. Jokingly saying "I'm Psychic" just sounded like he was mocking the whole psychic stuff because he didn't believe in it.
