Spoon in pocket

Ok, I get that Silver isn't really blind, but in an interview he tells the woman he knows she wants him to bend something because part of a spoon is sticking out of her pocket. How does telling her this keep up the appearance that he is blind? What am I missing, or is this just a goof?

I think it was a way of keeping up appearances by making something obvious seem impossible...it's like, if you are guilty of a crime so, when asked, you fess up to it in a joking manor. It alleviates suspicion.

When he said it was sticking out of her pocket it became a joke because obviously he is blind, therefore straying people from wondering if he is or is not.

(Also it could be compared to the card thing that Sig. Weaver did with the glasses. She held the card to the light, drawing the guys attention away from the obvious fact that she may be reading the card from the reflection from his spectacles).
