SPOILER: The Man Behind the Curtain
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I watched this film a second time, and when watching the scene where Tom goes to see Silver, and Silver emerges from behind the red curtain, I got the strong feeling from Silver's soliloquy, that he started to figure out that Tom was a true psychic. I say this based on the monologue. Things he said, like "but you already know that don't you? You already know that." And then something like, how can we begin to know about someone else, without first knowing about ourselves (paraphrase). He also said something about, " to be or to appear to be, that is the question. Stating that we're all pretending to be something we're not. Which of course, could have been a statement about himself (Silver) as well as Tom. As Silver and Tom are opposite sides of the same coin, both pretending to be what they're not. And then at the finale of the film, when Tom asks him, "did you know all along?" suggests that perhaps Silver did know.
I know it is thought that Silver finds out about Tom at the same time we do (at the theater). At the end (the big reveal ) of the film, Silver shouts "how did you do that?!" But could it be because although he knew Tom was psychic, he didn't actually think he could destroy objects with his mind? In other words, he didn't imagine that Tom was THAT powerful. I don't know... just my thoughts.
