Music goof: 'New York Groove'...

At the start of the movie captions tell us that the year is 1974, as they put on an album playing Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley's "New York Groove" -- it plays loudly during the rest of the following scene.

That song first appeared on his solo album in 1978, four years later.

The original version of the song by the UK group Hello was published in 1975, which would still be too late to be accurate, but it's most definitely Frehley's '78 version we hear.

Wouldn't be a big deal if it was just some background music, but it's a pretty obvious goof as the song (and both the turning it on and turning it off) is featured prominently on screen and even plays a part in the dialogue at the end of that scene.

IMDb-boards would be less confusing if people would mark their signatures clearly.

I can be a stickler for period detail, especially music. I noticed that right away.

It's a cool tune, which is probably what swayed the director. He must've known it was a later song. To me, it just seems lazy. Tough luck! Go find another song!

During the bank truck robbery/chase, I also noticed pilings in front of building that I don't think were in use until decades later.

These may seem like small matters to some people, but it becomes revealing...pulls back the curtain, so to speak.

Yep, I also knew right away. Can't the movie people just use google?

I actually knew from being a KISS fan myself but I knew the song was already written by someone else and then EVEN that was in 75...

Yeah, as you both pointed out it's not as if the information isn't available -- I kind of find it hard to believe as well that no-one knew or pointed it out somewhere along the way, if the director didn't already know -- I'm leaning towards it being a conscious choice (albeit a bad one, IMO).

At the end of the scene Billy Crudup yells something like: "...and will you turn that *beep* record off?"

He should've added: "It doesn't even exist yet, for cryin' out loud!"

IMDb-boards would be less confusing if people would mark their signatures clearly.
