'We Own The Night'??

Does anyone else think that the premise of this film sounds very similar to the movie "We Own the Night" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0498399/. The story is basically one brother is a cop and the other is a criminal/troublemaker and they both work together to take down the bad guy while fighting each other. The trivia for Blood Ties said that Mark Wahlberg was going to play a lead role... he was also the main character in We Own the Night. If I remember right We Own the Night was also based in the 1970's like this film.

Just feels too similar. Anyone else think so?

Well James Gray wrote the screenplay for both movies...

Canet and Grey have just adapted the screenplay of a french movie in which Canet played the lead (Les Liens du Sang). Apparently the three movies are different.

Oui. I thought the exact same thing when I heard about the project.

That's weird. It's one thing if he were remaking it for a French audience but this is an American film. Why remake it? Also why involve James Gray and Marky Mark the second time around?

reply

hopefully this movie starts with some nudity and Clive Owen fingering one of those 3 hotties to a 70s pop tune like "We Own The Night" did!

dont forget PRIDE AND GLORY.

Let's blast off - Hurdy Gurdy

James Gray co-wrote the script. He has no imagination. Little Odessa, The Yards and We Own the Night have the same plot. So, looks like we can also add Blood Ties.
James Gray is into recycling in a big way. He just keeps rejigging the plot of his previous movies. Until you pointed it out, I didn't realise he'd been involved in scripting for all the above films, which do have significant similarities.

We Own The Night was kind of a let down. One Brother a Cop. One a so called criminal. As said by the ad campaign. But,the supposedly Bad Brother, doesn't beak the law he runs a night club. The owner of the club sells drugs, etc. Lol. They made it out to be good bro/bad bro. It just wasn't that.

I wonder if this film will fall prey to cliche. Like the bad bro has "To Pay". With his life or jail.

I haven't seen 'We Own The Night' yet so OP has spoilt that movie for me if and when I ever watch it. I'll still watch it because I like the theme so maybe I have the thread OP to thank, after all, lol.
