Why Did Clive Owen's Character Shoot Up That Restaurant?

I remember there was some dialogue between that bar owner guy and Owen and he showed him some pics of some guys and asked him to do the "job" for him. Next thing you know he arrives on a bike, walks in and kills everyone.

Please explain what that was all about. I missed a couple of lines in the conversation they were having.

Thx.

It was the job. I think they were just putting the bar out of business ie. kill everyone.

Sounds reasonable, but, sweet Jesus, it is a shock.

Well they only had a couple of lines of conversation, so things weren't laid out in great detail. I was expecting a robbery, because I didn't think his record indicated he was a cold-blooded killer. I guess I was wrong.

Ya I had the same feeling. From the parts of the conversation I heard and just the general tone, it lead me to believe it would have been a robbery and not a mass murder. I also didn't get that sentiment of him being that evil.

It was a contract killing for someone else, he did it as he was desperate for the payday as the straight job wasn't working out. It showed he was willing to forget the rehab and go full bandit.
