Just watched it. (Spoilers maybe)

Loved it definitely one to watch on the big screen, not sure it would have the same effect at home.

Did Charlie get mentioned? Did I miss it?

I just got home from it, don't remember any Charlie being mentioned but also wasn't looking for it..who's Charlie?
My exact thought on this film...was going to wait and watch it at home but had heard a couple different times how much of a big-screen movie it is...and after seeing it, yeah it'd have definitely been a shame to not experience it in all its glory.
Oh, and the theater had their speakers pumped up pretty high...so much so that I was a little worried it might be too much at first, but it ended up being perfect. What a ride, great movie!

I think I may have been in the same theater as you Jehoshaphet. I just got home from it too. I thought the cinematography was fantastic and enjoyed the great plot twists. Cruise’s acting has improved ten fold from the original. I loved how they weaved in the old story lines and the original music and opening images of the carrier operations in the same colors / filter and even recreated the font and themes with the credits. By the way, “Charlie” was the character played by Kelly McGillis in the original. I was surprised they did not even use a photo of her like they did with Meg Ryan and Mark Edwards.

I never got the impression that Charlie was much more than a "summer fling" for Maverick.

I also never bought Meg Ryan's claim that Maverick's "100% in love" with Charlie -- she was just playing wingman to her husband's best friend.

I have to admit, though, Jennifer Connelly's character's name did not register with me when I saw this flick. Something about the way Maverick said "Penny Benjamin" told me her name was important. Just not admiral's daughter important.

Regardless, there's a sense of history between them that justifies them winding up together in the end. Blood military sticks together.

I agree about Charlie. I haven't lived with the original as a favorite of mine. Though I have seen pieces of it over the years, I hadn't watched it 100% through until Monday before seeing the sequel. I also got the notion that this was only a fling. Charlie made that kinda clear. And she leaves at the end of the movie. like, legit moved...at least that's what I thought she said, so the relationship actually ended on screen of the original. So yea, 30 years later there would be no reason to bring her up in a natural way. And I enjoyed Penny's character a little better than Charlie. But again, I haven't 'lived' with the movie as much as others have.

Yeah was very loud, worked well though.
Seemed a bit cheesy at the start but I really enjoyed it, I went with my wife she didn't like it😮 so I'm gonna go again with my son who's 17 but he's not seen the 1st one yet.

Charlie is the one who took his breath away in the original.

But now she looks more like his mother, so they got a younger looking girl instead.

Tom Cruise looks kind of amazing for someone almost 60.

I'm sure if they asked her a year in advance she could of spruced herself up a bit.

There was plenty of vibration in our seats in the theater. There is no way this movie could be nearly as immersive in a home theater setting. So glad I saw it on an IMAX screen.
