What ruined it for me.....

I was unaware that it was a remake until after I saw the movie.

Julia's acting was wonderful as was Chiwetel Ejiofer's. Nicole Kidman was as stiff as usual.

What ruined it for me was the editing. Changing times is fine as long as it is a smooth transition. But this movie jumped around so much I got a headache. I had to watch Chiwetel Ejiofer's hair for the gray. Although in the current time - I could sometimes see the grey.

It could have been a much better movie with a good editor.

I did the same thing....LOL.

Looked for the gray hair. That was the only way to know it was 2015 and not 2002.

BINGO!

Its kind of a "do it yourself assembly kit where you have little idea what you are building to begin with and you really don't like or want what you've got after your attempts to put it together.
Personally I blame the director more than the editor. Isn't the director the one who determines the ultimate outcome?

reply

You're right - I think the director has the last word or should have. Unless the film editor has naked pictures of him.

Gap each: Your remark about time transitions and editing is completely correct. That hurt the good acting.

That's what I had to do too.

Nicole has the best scene in the movie, the interrogation which was acclaimed by even the critics who hated this movie (see IGN review), i don't why this negativity, this movie is very good, i wasn't frustrated by the editing and the shifting between 2002 and 2015 but some people were

I wasn't bothered by it either. I think it's my preferred form of story-telling, one of the things that really attracted me to Lost. Some of my favorites books do this, as well.

I support, defend and always employ the Oxford comma.
