.... Who did not think the original was a masterpiece. It felt like a well made, solid, average foreign film. I thought it was too long and too verbose. Just okay.
So Billy Ray's was much more compelling for me.
Not sure why he remade it to begin with (guess he and everyone thought it was a masterpiece) -- 'cause Billy Ray is such an original & extraordinary thinker/writer -- I'd prefer something new from Ray. The original was nowhere near a masterpiece to me. Kind of ... Slow and fine, but certainly not a masterpiece.
