They changed the original too much

[SPOILER WARNING: SPOILER THAT WAS SPOILED IN TRAILER ANYWAY]

In the original the victim is not related to the detective. I have not seen this new version but I think that the changed dynamic of the daughter's death is going to ruin the film.

Watch the original Argentinian version - that movie was absolutely amazing, even with the subtitles.

I will probably still see this version but not pay full-price, wait for redbox etc.

Go watch it, it's worth seeing it in theatre really

It is not worth seeing it anywhere. What a terrible remake. This Billy Ray director did a terrible job with this movie. Can't Hollywood get any good directors anymore?

reply

Billy Ray has done some good stuff in the past.

reply

Just got back from the remake. It's terrible and boring. Slow paced and it drudges on forever.

reply

Ummm... A remake should change things. Not everything, but enough for it to feel like a reinterpretation rather than a copy.

reply

There is usually plenty to change in actors acting, conatography, dialog etc. etc. - so no need to do changes in key plot elements.

reply

Yeah, that change was totally Hollywood. They just had to have one of the detectives be overly emotionally invested in the case, and the easiest way to do that was to create the Julia Roberts character. The original was near perfect, and a big part of that had to do with the subtlety as well as the realism. Hollywood's version of it lacks both.

"This life's hard, man, but it's harder if you're stupid!"

reply

Yeah, I think you're right, they did have to make it dramatic. I just assumed that people from Argentina were a little more emotional than us - but maybe there were problems with the original too.
