who is Julia Roberts meant to be in this film?

there is only one female lead in the original, Irene, for which Kidman was chosen. i have no doubt she will bring a lot to the role, she's perfect for it, in fact.

however the above question remains....
Unless Julia Roberts is meant to play the 20-something year-old victim of the rape/murder that kickstarts the book, i don't get why she's in the casting...
of course, they can always change the other characters and make one of them female..
am i wrong in saying Colin Firth would be great for the male lead, Benjamin?

in any case, the original film was a masterpiece!

some sources claim that she'll play the female version of Pablo Sandoval.

An alcoholic Julia Roberts? There goes her 5th Oscar nomination.

Definitely would be the best idea and Roberts would knock it out the park.

As stated in the IMBd TRIVIA section: Julia Roberts' role was initially played by a male actor. Sounds like the part of Gomez, in the original version, was rewritten for her. This part is significant to the story and should bring her a Best Supporting Actress nomination. Nicole Kidman's role is definitely the female lead and Chiwetel Ejiofor is the male lead. All 3 of these roles are Oscar bait material.

Here's hoping the American version is just as good as the original Argentinian version; which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year 2010

First, I think it is a terrible idea to remake a really great movie. Nowhere to go but down. But that's just my opinion.

2nd, again my opinion, here's hoping that Julia Roberts plays Liliana Coloto. The again, she could probably screw that part up, too.

How pathetic.
I hope they don't get any Oscar nods.
Julia Roberts playing a female version of Pablo Sandoval? It doesn't make any sense.

For the Julia Roberts character, they combined two characters from the original, the main character's job partner, Pablo Sandoval, and the dead girl's husband., Ricardo Morales.

reply

Now I'm confused.
How can she be BOTH Sandoval AND Morales?
So they replaced Pablo Sandoval's character with Morales being Esposito's partner?

No doubt they did that so Roberts could stole the whole attention.
That kind of movies is what USA audiences likes?
I rather watch an episode of Criminal Minds, or Law & Order SVU, or CSI or whatever.

They've changes the roles slightly: she's playing a mixture of both the guy who lost his wife in the original film and Pablo Sandoval.

It say's in the trivia that she replaces Lilliana's Husband and is on the force. That's her daughter who they find murdered. They screwed this whole remake up. Should have just made a new movie and called it something else.
