My thoughts on a couple things

The movie my friend and I bought tickets online to see was removed. We were given 2 free passes and were admitted to see a movie for free due to inconveniences. So we saw Secret in Their eyes.

What if she decided that a life prison sentence was better than death? They didn't even discuss it he just said "here's my gun, you know what to do." It's conceivable that she had not killed anyone up to that point. Would she just do it so casually after 13 years.

And even if they decided to kill him, why not do a better job of disposing of the body then putting it where she already confessed it was. Incase Nicole Kidman had a change of heart.

Oscar the grouch was not mentioned as a possible suspect in the beginning.

I think they knew that Claire wouldn't turn her in -- she was their friend, and she understood the situation. I think if Ray hadn't found out the truth, Jess would have kept him prison forever. But after Ray found out, he immediately set down the gun and went to dig the hole. His actions alone told her how serious she was.

I don't know whether or not he would have gone through with it, but I think the general sentiment at that point was "kill him and be done with it, or we need to hand him over to police". She wasn't going to let him go, so she did as Ray asked and felt better for it in the end.

What I've got in my head you can't buy, steal, or borrow. I believe in live and let live.

SPOILERS

Remember, you're supposed to say "spoilers" so that someone who hasn't seen it doesn't find out key plot points. Julia told Ray & Claire that she had shot, killed and buried Marzin. She told them while at Claire's house. You're very attentive to details. With my sometimes short attention span, I'm not quite as attentive. So Ray went to visit Jess, and accidentally saw Marzin's jail cell?

I think the reason he told her to kill Marzin was because in case Claire decided to press charges, Jess would only be charged with murder. Not that that isn't a big charge, but if they ever caught her jailing Marzin, she could instead face a kidnapping and improper jailing charge and Marzin could go free on top of that. Imagine how she'd feel if she got a lengthy prison sentence while Marzin went free.

Did you know that in this film, Julia Roberts wore contact lenses that made her eyes look unattractive? Her husband was the cinematographer. So she wore drab, loose fitting clothes and no closeup shots of her private areas (not even clothed). He didn't want that kind of thing on film for anybody to ogle his wife. But he went wild over Nicole by showing part of her bra she was wearing.

In one scene, Nicole thought Marzin was guilty, but said he was free to go, while making mocking comments about him, hoping he'd get angry and do something to incriminate himself (which he did).

There was Marzin and the guy who they thought was Marzin but wasn't. Was he played by the same person? It was hard to tell.

You may be right, but I think he just wanted her to be "free". I'm not saying that killing Marzin would be "healthy" for her, but certainly healthier than facing him every single day.

I'm sure he's not thrilled about men ogling his wife, but I think the part called for her to not be sexy, but an everyday working mom, a little on the plain side, busy with pursuing terrorists right after 9/11. And after the brutal death of her daughter, she was a broken woman.

Yes:

Joe Cole ... Marzin / Beckwith

What happened to Beckwith? The cops pulled the gun on him and his friends in the garage, and then the scene ended abruptly. Did he get killed, arrested, or what? Did you know this movie was R but they brought it down to PG-13? So maybe they showed Marzin get killed in the R-rated version. Thanks for your answers so far.

I imagine he was arrested and charged with, as a minimum violating his parole, as well as stealing the BMW from the race track and beating the crap out of Ray.

The other guys would be charged with crimes related to working in a chop shop, and they were also involved in beating Ray. And one of them killed a cop. Since the cop was killed during the commission of a felony/felonies, I'd imagine they all would get a piece of that.

Even though he wasn't Marzin, he was certainly guilty of a whole lot of crimes.

I wasn't aware that they brought the rating down to PG-13. I wonder what they cut.

Thanks for being so helpful. I'll bet they cut Marzin being shown getting killed. When it comes on official DVD release, hopefully it will have the deleted scenes. Why did Beckwith run away from Ray in the stable if he hadn't murdered anybody? Maybe he thought Ray was aware of his crimes such as being in a chop shop. Joe Cole took a beating in this dual role and had low billing. Nicole didn't have to cry or do anything difficult and got second billing. Marzin grabbed her for a minute, but that wasn't too much of anything. "Ray" was pretty good, but Julia absolutely sizzles in this role.

If you look at the scene in the race track again, you'll notice that they show a close up on Beckwith's face and then another direct one on the police badge.

He basically realized that he was a cop and thought they were after him because of his car stealing things.

reply

Now that you mention it, now I remember the closeup of Beckwith's face and the badge. They didn't have to do a double exposure, because Beckwith and Marzin didn't share any scenes. Two different characters played by one person.

I think she also decided to finally kill him because Ray told her she looked a million years old...and she realized (now since he knew) it was because she kept him in her own jail for 13 years and wasn't carrying the burden of killing him. So killing him helped her.

You can't have organized crime without law and order.
