Good cast, but overlong, bland, no payoff, but good ending.

"Secret in Their Eyes" is overlong although it does employ good actors in it. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Julia Roberts are a couple detectives working together and they go to a crime scene where a young woman has been found dead after being raped and beaten. It was Robert's daughter. Ejiofor leaves town but never allows memories of that day to leave his mind. More than a decade later he returns to town with what he believes is evidence which can open the case. Nicole Kidman plays the district attorney, and someone that Ejiofor has had feelings for all these years too. This movie is slow moving, takes a while to go anywhere, and in the spots where there is supposed to be payoff scenes, they just fall flat. What extent would you go if you just knew that the guilty person was walking around and you could do something about it? That is the dilemma Ejiofor faces. I did like the ending, it is not the regular Hollywood ending, but overall the film is bland regardless of the talent in this thing. This also stars Alfred Molina. ** out of 4 stars. Could be a rental for a rainy day if you are looking for a diversion.

I almost made the mistake of watching this movie at the theater. The trailer looked very good. I just watched it on rental and I am so glad I stayed home. This movie was not very good. In addition to too much dialogue, it moved too slowly, confusing flashbacks, poor investigation skills and gratuitous love interests. What a waste of such a great cast.
