As for why the "cunning sociopath" never escaped when prison inmates have been known to make daring getaways.
Don't be so surprised!
I mean, Jess was committed to having him "...rot in jail...Live a life of nothing."[/b] as a life sentence without parole. Let's look at how her efforts would be different from the typical penal system that allows some convicts to get away:
a. The jailer would be VERY committed to her job...and not be some underpaid, under-motivated lackey.
b. With no human rights organizations to answer to...
c. There would be no implements with which to affect an escape with...
d. No eating instruments, no shaving kits, no amusements, no posters, no diversions, no chess set, no tools, no knives, no forks...just a plastic poop bucket or a septic hole in the floor. Four walls and that's all.
e. With no privacy rights to worry about, a surveillance camera would serve to observe any manual attempts at freedom.
f. I am told that the State of California aims for a 5:1 prisoner:guard ratio. In this case it would be a 1:1 ratio. No division of attention. A sole focus. A life sentence for one inmate...and his jailer.
Marzin would not have much of a chance...but she would not have much of a life.
And that's the way the story goes!
On November 6, 2012 god blessed America...again.
