Same story?

Sorry if this has been asked before but does this version have the same plot as the original?

reply

The answer should be apparent from the previews: No.

In very broad outline it follows the same general story arc. Changes include the addition of USA movie star megawattage and a ridiculously dense concentration of plot & character coincidences. This overpriced, overstuffed effort will, I fear, distract American audiences forever away from the Argentine original. The 2009 film is a true masterpiece. See that one.

Or maybe its quite possible this new film will bring attention to the original and cause people to check it out a film they may have never heard of. Maybe Netflix or one of the cable channels will now show it because of the publicity for the new film. I've seen this at a screening a few months ago and really enjoyed it, now I want to see the original. What's wrong with that?

Well, that's a lot of maybes. All this time you've been thinking of checking out the original, it's been available. There's a "view it now" link right at the top of the 2009 movie's IMDb page. Your comment sounds to me like all theory and no practice. Please write back to this space after you've seen the original.

reply

Sure. Just give me your Amazon account number so I can charge the viewing fee to you since you want me to watch it so bad. Until then I'll wait for Netflix, Prime, or HBO

So you "want" what you won't pay for? And a stranger should pony up for that? Thanks, that helps explain the "dull boy" tag line. I don't care whether you ever watch another movie, now that I know what you're willing to pay.

reply

No, YOU want me to see it, lIke you want everyone else who also wants to see the remake, to the point of insulting the new film sight unseen. Yeah, I'm defending Secret, because I enjoyed it and thought it's a really good film, and will recommend it to my friends.
I am interested to see the original. Since I already pay for Amazon Prime, Netflix, and HBO, so I'm willing to wait until it shows up there. I saw the remake for free, why should I pay extra to see the original?

And apparently you've never seen The Shining? That helps explain the eeybo name.

"now I want to see the original."

Who wrote that? Check your comments history if you're not sure.

I'm done here, sonny.

reply

Yes I said it, doesn't mean I want to spend $2.99 for it. Its not a high priority, I can wait. You need to go upstairs and cry to mommy that someone was mean to you on the internet.

This.

The original deserves a wider audience.

Doubt I'll see this this re-imagining but it's a good thing they deviated from the source.

Of course the 2009 film is a masterpiece. Buthe goal from this remake is not to reproduce the same plots and political background that were necessary and gave depth to the original that I saw and loved. This remake version is just a sort of hommage according to Roberts and a muscular version according to Billy Ray. The two movies have more differences than similarities and it's been told in the cast interviews that it is just a simple thriller. Maybe if it wasn't mentioned that it was a remake, people wouldn't overreact.

The original is already 6 years old, how will it distract from it? If anything the remake will give the original more attention. I bet there are a lot of viewers of the new film who never heard of the original that will go out of their way to watch it now.

For heaven's sakes, people, get a library card and get the DVD from your library and watch it for free.

Basically, yes. They change husband for mother, baseball for soccer, man implicated in the argentinian dictatorship for a snitch for the polce. In the original the victim is not related to the cops or the investigators. But, what's really different is the ending, why they changed that fabolous ending???
