Ha!  It's a holdover from The Secret in Their Eyes (2009) where they do the same thing...except at an Argentine fútbol (soccer) stadium. 

On November 6, 2012 god blessed America...again. 

It's in the original, and it's not dumb at all. They went many times to the stadium, looking all over. The chances of finding him were not great, but not that small either.

BTW, that whole scene in the original, and the previous one tied to it, and downright spectacular. If someone here hasn't seen the original, they should go and see it for that scene if for nothing else (mind you, the whole movie is great).

I'm totally ignorant about how baseball fans work but in Argentina the 'futbol' fans usually occupy the same spots. There are sections 'unofficially' reserved to them, if you are looking for a old time fan that you know goes to the stadium often you will know where to look, so in the original is not that crazy... but then I don't know if baseball works like that.

You´re right about that part. When I go to soccer and ice hockey in Sweden I always stand on the same spot, at least for the last 6 years :)

there are season ticket holders, but they are usually rich people. lower income people buy tickets in the cheap seats and vary from game to game.

I lose my wife between the bathroom and the concession stand every time. If it weren't for our seats I wouldn't see her for the rest of the game. There's no way she'd find him.
