someone explain the portal ending?
is that somekind inter-world tourism going on? seems like everyone just casually came out of the portal like they have done it numerous time before.
shareI'm not too sure myself...it's a bit too ambiguous. I think what happened was that some clever little cuss from another world had invented a multiverse "hub" portal and opened 'em all up. They looked to me more like they were looking around in a curious manner, wondering where they were now.
I think (just a guess, mind you) that the ending was meant to show that the influx of people would swamp the oppressed world of the series with good people from other worlds and they would naturally oust the baddies just by outnumbering them and showing the regular people of the show's world what a better existence looks like. That's just the impression I got.
Would it work that way? I don't know... I think the ending needed a few more loose ends tied up to 100% work.
EDIT: As soon as I hit "submit", I thought of this...
I think maybe the ending is about showing that we can choose our world. The people coming through the portal were coming deliberately, to make the broken world whole again. People like Hawthorne who leave to travel the multiverse are looking for a purpose and a perfect place for themselves.
Think about John Smith's final moments. He talks about all the people you are/could be, and reconciling it with who you are in your life. The message here is about making good choices so you bring your self and your life to the best possible world. In a meta sense, this is a message to the viewer: make yourself the best you, make your world the best world. You can travel a portal if you work to make things better.
It feels like an unnecessary scene that raises more questions for no reason, it would have been a more cohesive ending with America declaring independence and the destruction of the portal by the resistance.
shareYes, it would have been more cohesive. Again, I think the ending was better than humdrum, but wasn't executed perfectly, and there are too many questions for it to 100% work.
I'd rather they have just blown up the portal than had reinforcements come through. But I do like that they tried to go somewhere interesting with it, even if they didn't pull it off.
