Good But Not Great

I found the first few episodes very entertaining but it went downhill fairly quickly after that and became far too slow and maudlin. How many scenes where the camera slowly goes in for a close up while some ethereal, melancholy music plays in the background do we need?

Then there's the amount of contrivances. Frank simply wouldn't let his sister and their children die to avoid telling the inspector that Julianna had gone to Cannon City. I mean, he just wouldn't. It was absurd. Then they meet a guy who's a spy, then a double agent, then an antique dealer, then a Yakuza, then a blah blah blah. It all just lacks authenticity and believability. Everything conveniently happens in a way that allows the very next thing to happen so that the next thing can happy. It feels so clunky.

Smith is by far the most compelling character, closely followed by the antique dealer. Then maybe Julianna. But Frank and Joe are both pretty forgettable and uninteresting.

The second season was even slower but it did pick up at the end (certainly enough to keep me interested in season three).

Overall, it's okay but not much better then that. In truth, I think the Nazi alternative history is singularly the most compelling aspect of the show but they can't dine out on that forever. I was also a little disappointed to discover that they're using infinite realities and using them to steer their reality in the direction they want. I was hoping it would be just one reality and people from that reality (our reality) would help the resistance.

Lots of realities is hedging their bets somewhat and will become tedious and unnecessarily convoluted. Shame.
