The balls to compare himself to Coleridge? Or was it sarcastic?

Sorry, but an unknown celeb comparing himself to a great poet was jarring. This must have been tongue in cheek. I dont mind Steve Coogan and think he has moments here and there, and this films was kind of like that as well.

But comparing himself to Coleridge? Either the man is a massive egomaniac or perhaps he really is brilliant. I think genus is something that is in the past- public figure don't have as much to hide behind and also he can't just cool out in a mansion smoking opium due to the cost and all the limits of modern society.

I'd hardly call Steve Coogan an 'unknown celeb'. Maybe in the US but part of the film references this. In the UK Coogan is a huge star and has been for at least 20 years.

I'm pretty sure he was taking the piss or the director wanted him to compare himself with Coleridge.

Snort.

And of course Coogan was doing his usual very dry, ironizing humor (which means that no we are not meant to think that Steve Coogan thinks he is similar to Coleridge).

I love this movie.

For sure he was and I was getting a satisfied chuckle out of it all.

I finally rented the DVD the other night and it did not disappoint as I found it thoroughly enjoyable. Definitely, I understand, not everyone's cup of tea.

My first Coogan movie was Tristram Shandy, A Cock & Bull Story even though I had never heard of Coogan (but I had heard of Allan Partridge!) The Shandy movie totally surprised me as I was amazed that anybody would attempt to do anything with the book....it worked for me!

When I heard of The Trip with Coogan and Brydon it was a done deal I would see it.
