Brilliant
This and The Missing Person were my two fave indies of last few years. Coogan should win awards for this.
shareWow I just watched it, and it really was an incredible film. Way, way more personal and layered than I expected. In fact, I'd put off watching it for a long time because the cover just doesn't do it justice.
I kept thinking... this is like a sequel to Withnail & I if both of them ended up successful and Withnail never really stopped being unhappy.
We thought so too. It is a great film, in unexpected, subtle ways -- even though Coogan isn't quite as well known in the U.S. as he should be, we Yanks do know that his comedic skills are superb (as are Brydon's, in a very different way). The chemistry these two share is just remarkable -- we actually have watched this film a number of times, and we (that is the wife and Mr. Crowley) are amazed at how well they play off each other. Brydon is a brilliant foil.
