Michael Caine

Does anyone know what Michael Caine film they were quoting with "She was only 15"?

reply

The line comes from Get Carter, 1972 i think, in relation to his characters neice being involved in a porn film

My husband and I loved "The Trip" and have been constantly quoting "she was only 16 years old" to each other and we JUST finished watching "Get Carter" and nothing like the line "she was only 16" was ever uttered in it. We were waiting the whole movie and saying, "here comes the line" every time we thought he was going to say it, but he never said it. Disappointing--however, Get Carter is a very cool movie--very much worth waiting for the line that never happens.

Oh, BTW, in reading further about this (you can see we obsessed about this line), in The Trip, they do also quote "You're a big man but you're out of shape" and that WAS from Get Carter--though not the exact quote (and it was a really great scene). So maybe they were just extrapolating the character saying something like "she was only 16," though he never actually says it. On the other hand, if Michael Caine really did say that in a movie, I'd love to know which one it was. A few people in Yahoo Answers said "Miss Congeniality", but I think they were joking.

Blame It On Rio?

reply

Yeah, we thought it could be "Blame it on Rio", though they sound pretty ominous when they say "she was only 16", but we watched it last night and nope! Doesn't say it. I saw that movie when I was really young and thought it was kind of creepy but now that I'm older, I thought it was funny and Michael Caine was really charming. I think Michael Caine just never actually says that line anywhere. I'd love to ask Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon about it.

I think it is from the film 'Harry Brown'

reply

I think it is meant to be Harry Brown. Rob & Steve do two Caine impressions - the young one ("YWOSTBTBDO...") and the older, quavering one - "She was only 15."
So the last quote is obviously meant to be from a recent film. NOT Get Carter!

reply

It is in fact from "Harry Brown": from the dark scene where he confronts the drug dealers.

How good were their impersonations? There they both were sounding exactly like him. I couldn't split them as to who was better. MC would have loved it; not sure about the other diners as Coogan notes. Very entertaining!🐭

reply

RB's impersonation is better IMO

reply

It's a matter of opinion, but I preferred Coogan's!

Its from Get Carter (1971) though its a misquote. In the movie Caine says "She was only sixteen years old".Its in reference to his niece who was forced to appear in a porn movie by the gang who killed his brother, the father of the girl.
