The features of a Troll

I really loved this show. I think it was exciting,it had just the right mix of action and comedy. I particularly enjoyed the gnomes, whose rage fits and generally mischievous behaviour was a delight.

On the other hand there is something I'm a bit confused about. I don't think there's any unified american version or concept of a troll. Nothing common in what they look like, what they act like, or even their abilities and weaknesses.

Two examples of this are the movie Willow and Trollhunters:

In Willow the Troll is a hairy ape-like creature, who thrives in daylight and has no language. They're also not significantly bigger than humans.

Trollhunter is closer to the Norwegian mythology in the sense that Trolls can talk, and turn to stone when hit by daylight. But they're not only associated with evil, like they are in Norwegian lore. Also unlike the traditional image of Trolls in Norway, they have no particular animosity towards organized religion.

I know Trollhunter is based on a book by Del Toro, but it just reminds me of several different iterations of trolls I've seen in american movies and Tv shows. But maybe I shouldn't be surprised that there's no unified version of a Troll in the USA. Perhaps it's because these creatures and their mythology was brought over to USA, rather than being created here.

Maybe poker's just not your game Ike. I know, let's have a spelling contest.

That's probably true of most mythic beings; different cultures produced different versions of dragons, fairies, werewolves and vampires, etc. As modern media makes use of old stories and legends, there is the ability to pick and choose different aspects from different sources, depending on the needs of the new media.
