Just noticed that Niki Caro is not the director anymore...
I remember that not so long ago, director Andrew Dominik said Chastain will be the lead of his "next movie"...I'm not sure if "Blonde" could start shooting this year so...maybe he's gonna replace Niki?? Could his "next movie" be Zookeeper's Wife?
That's exactly what I've been thinking since Dominik talked about working with Chastain on his next project.

Ahaa. Thanks for that, shellymanner. I remember reading about the split. So possible Mark Butan had issues with Niki Caro or vice versa. Sometimes producers request idiotic changes in the script that directors (who have already worked with the writers on the shooting script) find difficult to live with and they quit. I wonder if this is what happened.

That's true; I am. Two of the great things about Megan Ellison is that she has a lot of money, but knows she is not a filmmaker and lets the filmmakers she backs get on with it. Not many producers around are like ME. Most tend to feel that they have a right to stick their oar in. Consequently, the first thing that popped into my head when it appeared that both she and NC left this project, was interference by the new guy. And since this seemed like a perfect project for NC, who has been working on the thing for a couple of years now, was that she refused to cave and was replaced. Hope I'm wrong.

I suspect that Niki Caro took on another project because Jessica Chastain isn't available until August.

It's really too bad about Caro, she hasn't had a really successful movie since North County (hoping Macfarland works out for her) and I was looking forward to seeing her work with Chastain, especially as she's directed three women to Oscar noms so far. Was hoping Chastain would be her 4th.

how was it reported as a fact? saying, "Heard a rumour that John Madden is attached to direct.", doesn't really come off to me like it's being reported as set in stone.
ayways i heard a rumor (see not reporting this as a fact) that john madden has been offered the chance to direct but as far as i know he's not attached yet.
