Venice or Toronto

This film is still in post-production, obviously, and not ready for Cannes. I've read that the filmmakers will take it to fall festivals, I hope that's true. I'm dying to get some word on this.

A screening at TIFF is very likely. I think almost all of Niki Caro's films screened there or premiered at a separate TIFF event (McFarland, USA).

That's interesting, thank you Jibiti.

Deadline just report it will release in 2017 . I hope it is wrong.

I saw that too. From everything I'm hearing he is wrong. There were a lot of errors in that article, including the name of Keisha Castle-Hughes, which someone fixed.

shellymanner what's your take on this?

"Now Ms. Chastain says that she has more choice in scripts than she ever expected. After “The Huntsman,” she has five movies scheduled to come out in the next year. Her next release is “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” "

My take is that it's the truth, at least about TZW. The Deadline announcement was issued by UTA, I believe, not Focus Features (so many errors in that announcement). My bet is the Toronto Film Festival for TZW and a late fall awards push, but we'll see. As for '5 movies scheduled to come out in the next year' I'm not sure that can be correct. TZW, Sloane, the Dolan, maybe Molly's Game if that goes end of this year. Maybe I'm forgetting one. None of the others seem firm but who knows.

Thanks. Heard there will be a testing screen this week.

reply

That's good news. My understanding is that test screenings begin as they near the finish of the director's cut, but that they continue to edit based on reactions of test audiences. So this is par for the course and seems the right time.

reply

test screen last night. did not seen any reactions .....

reply

I believe they're not allowed to talk about test screenings. The audience signs legal agreements.

reply

Not surprised about TIFF or Venice, they have a good, real story to get awards or at least good reviews if they did not crash it.😐

December 2016 from IMDB

Any news about release date?

reply

Wide release March 31th. Looks like not an awards film. Though you never know, it could always be an Ex Machina or Grand Budapest.

reply

True. I'd look for it at the Berlin Film Festival next Feb. The cast is heavily European and Israeli (maybe that's why they're not pushing it for awards this fall -- too European, and Focus has 'Loving' and 'Nocturnal Animals' to protect already).

reply

Pleased about the 2017 release date. I'd like Miss Sloane, which will be released this December, to get the awards push.
