Sounds like 'The Zookeeper'

Perhaps the Sam Neill film 'The Zookeeper' was loosely based on this story, because they sound like pretty much the same story.
Unfortunately, this doesn't stand much of a chance at bettering the original.
'The Zookeeper' is a great, understated film!

The zookeepers wife takes place in Poland at the beginning of World War II, the zookeeper with Sam Neill takes place in Czechoslovakia during a Civil War. They're not the same
