The animals were probably among the most innocent victims of all

We all kno world war 2 was the ugliest war in history, before or since. And it wasn't just the massive amount of human suffering, but the animal suffering was terrible as well. The zoo animals of such places as Warsaw and Berlin never did any harm to anyone. They were just captive animals in a far away land against their will who did not deserve to die. Just thinking about what happened to the elephants lions and other magnificent animals makes me very sad.

You need to see this film, then. I've read the book and found it one of the more interesting and readable of the holocaust novels. Juxtaposed against Nazi atrocities of humans are the Nazi atrocities of animals that give a new perspective to a frequently used topic.

First the dangerous animals needed to be shot and this was done by the Zookeeper should they get loose and harm the public if their pens were bombed. Later, immediately following Nazi occupation, the Germans shot the larger animals for sport.

The most memorable part of the novel for me was The Zookeeper's Wife crying all night listening to the gunshots as many of the animals she had raised from infancy were murdered for German sport.

There's a book too? Neat.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

The book and the movie look very good. Very good, but very sad at the same time. I think Poland, in particular was dealt a bad hand during and after the war. They sacrificed so much only to become a soviet satalite stAte after the war. What I found interesting was that the pro western polish government in exile existed in some form until 1990 when communism finally fell.

Poland is still an interesting case. The American public has been purposely misinformed about so much to this date and I see that continuing for some time.

I love all the theories put forth by the "Ancient Aliens" television program "Aliens and the Third Reich".

Turns out when they say that many members of the Nazi Party were "inhuman" they really mean "not human". Explains a lot.

Yeah it's sad, but it's much more sad how many people were put into concentration camps and murdered by a corrupt government. I know you mean well, but it sounds like you are saying some people in Germany deserved what happened.

I agree though

What corrupt government???? Ninety percent of Germans accepted what Hitler did during the war, so they were blamed too.😒
