Malek won the Oscar because...
Okay, I've heard that some people say he didn't deserve the Oscar because some of his performance was plain old lip-synching. That doesn't count against him! I mean, you could put me in front of a camera, and have me lip-synch to Freddie Mercury, and CGI in the Live-Aid crowd, and have me do all of Mercury's moves down to the smallest detail, and after five seconds you'd be checking your phone for texts or getting up to do the dishes. Same for 99.999999% of other actors.
Malek won because he managed to make the lip-synch concert scenes riveting, both dazzling with Mercury-level Star Quality, and having the audience holding their breath because they're afraid he'll crack under the pressure or his voice will give out. This wasn't a great film by any means, but Malek was enthralling.
