If two male friends (heterosexual) go to see Bohemian Rhapsody...

...should they hold hands while walking in to be better accepted?

I need to know because my friend and I were talking about going to see it. Thanks.

Asking is half the battle. One of you could cosplay as a Freddie impersonator, complete with crown and cape if possible. Everyone enjoys a show. What Queen fan in their right mind would question that?

reply

Holding hands is too gay. Just dress like this: http://www.pirkparduok.eu/image/953799.jpg

reply

That's a good one, Satan, lol; you too Twin. :)

reply

Being better accepted is not the point. Do you really care about all those people anyway?
Now a fellatio would lead to a better understanding of the movie, which is so much more important!
Well... that's my wild guess...

reply

Rather than risk offending non hand holders, maybe you should take a more diverse approach and hold hand.

reply

The LIEberal mantra: "Diversity, diversity, diversity" (rolling my eyes).

reply

I'm fairly sure if two guys go see this and don't hold hands, it's a hate crime.

reply

That's what I was afraid of

reply

Wait a minute! Freddie Mercury was gay! Preposterous! He clearly shouts "Bring on the girls!" in the song Princes of the Universe. He's gonna sue you all for slander.

reply

Just sit near the back and suck your friend off

reply

95% of the people in the showing I went to were middle aged straight couples, quietly tutting whenever something gay happened.

reply

I expect to see a significant box office drop on this movie because of the degree of gayness in it. Word of mouth will spread and the reality is men don't enjoy watching two guys swap spit. If they were going for box office receipts on this film they should have never show Freddie actually locking lips as often as they did. Sure he was gay and it isn't a shock to anyone that knows much about the band, but they could have easily ended scenes prior to the male on male kissing without covering up the fact that he was gay.

reply

I'd rather it be realistic and confronting to the audiences' perceptions rather than pander to mass market beigeness on the basis it might "offend some men". Nothing that was shown was remotely explicit anyway, and I'd imagine nobody would blink if two women were seen kissing, so those audience members just need to own up to their own prejudices.

reply

You can't simply ignore the realities of how people are wired anymore than you can make a gay person straight. For a normal male seeing two guys swapping spit is disgusting. It might not bother the new generation of snowflakes that behave more like neutered guys than men, but a movie is intended to make money not pander to a minute segment of the population that want to cram gayness down the throats of the masses. The biggest question is whether seeing Fredding swapping spit actually moved the story along anymore than it would have moved the story along if they faded to black before they locked lips. Reality is the story wouldn't have suffered from being cut either way so the only reason to go that far was to pander to the gay media mafia that wants to try and push gayness into the mainstream.

reply

You don't want the film to pander to gay people/'snowflakes', but you want it to pander to 'normal males' lest it - gasp - challenge their view of the world?

Sounds more like you're the fragile snowflake in this equation.

reply

Huh. Isn't this true of a great majority of hetero erotic scenes in movies then? Said scenes which are the virtual mainstay of film in the minds of the dumb and horny moviegoing swathes that have kept Hollywood in business for decades?

reply

For a deeply insecure and repressed, closeted gay-curious male, seeing two guys swapping spit is disgusting.

Fixed this for you hun.

reply

Funny thing is the only people that believe that are gays that keep trying to claim everyone that realizes they are abnormal is a closet gay... most likely because you don't like the fact that you are very small minority that for some reason wants to inflate your numbers... Well sorry to break it to you but the number of gays in the population is much closer to 3 percent than the 10 percent some folks like to claim... The only time you'll find any support for 10% number is in a sex survey done by Masters and Johnson and it was fatally flawed because they got that number from asking their respondents if they every had a gay experience... and drum roll... the people they survey were inmates in a prison and they didn't even bother to ask if the experience was consensual... So believe what you want if it makes you feel better, but the reality is you're just delusional.

reply

most likely because you don't like the fact that you are very small minority that for some reason wants to inflate your numbers...

In fact I am a small minority – one of a kind, sweetie. 😘 And I certainly don't intend to inflate the number of whatever it is that I am. I am the last of the dodo birds. Also I personally don't identify as gay.

No doubt it's a small percentage of the population that does actively identify as gay.

reply

So I'm being semi-satirical in fixing your quotation, and I'm only an armchair psychologist, but in my experience it is so true that the ones who are most disturbed by seeing any amount of gay shit, and get the most defensive about their sexuality, are men who are blocking the natural course of self-inquiry as to their personal relationship to the innate ambiguities of sexuality. (BTW they just so happen to tend to love watching the tight, muscular asses of athletes wrangle balls with each other in slow mo on tv all day.) It could be due to any number of social conditioning factors, but it most certainly comes from a place of fear. It also tends to be from a place of the same fear-based insecurity that an individual feels the need to gatekeep and define what a "normal" specimen of their gender identity is and thinks.

One can't make those sorts of statements except from a place of fear that maybe there's a part of themselves that could be just a little gay, or even naturally wonder what it might be like, or have felt some type of affection for someone of the same gender, or what have you. Those who don't have a repressed blockage tend to be able to integrate the ambiguity and will not be so phased by whatever they might see two people doing.

reply

I feel compassion for anyone who is psychologically blocked, self-denying or afraid in any way, because behind that is sure to be some repressed personal pain, and to be sure growing out of a perspective like that can be a hard process that requires going into dark places. At the same time though, fear has a tendency to become hate and intolerance, which perpetuates suffering, and it's important to let people know that they're fucked up for bigoted views, and that they can and should strive to examine the source of their views and feelings, and change, for the benefit of their fellow humankind. πŸ‘

I can appreciate to a certain degree the view that Hollywood is in the throes of pushing a progressive agenda at times fairly aggressively, and sometimes in a way that plays out a little cringily on the nose – and this said as someone whose m.o. is total freedom and non-prejudice to the point of anarchy – but it's ultimately a good thing that people are moving beyond ingrained hatred.

reply

"most likely because you don't like the fact that you are very small minority that for some reason wants to inflate your numbers"

'Inflate numbers'?? What are you smoking?

Sexual attraction is core and cannot be altered, you can't recruit or influence someone into being attracted to someone/something they're inherently not attracted to.

And why are you suddenly going on about population percentages!?

reply

Because I get tired of these insecure fags yammering about everyone else that isn't happy to see guys locking lips being latent fags... It gets tiring and comes down to them wanting to believe that they aren't a tiny little minority. Hell if you were born gay you are a tiny minority, so get over it. That was my point.

reply

Yes, everyone else is insecure except you and the other 'normal males'.

As your ire seems solely directed at gay men, I think the only thing 'it comes down to' is some fragility in your ego, like if gays exist and - !OHMYGOD! - kiss each other, then it somehow negatively impacts your status as a man. Maybe it's you that has something you need to get over rather than yammering on.

reply

It's not 'fags' who are yammering about this, it's everyone who isn't prejudiced and afraid. That offhandedly and half humorously tossing out the meme that fear of gayness = repressed gayness would lead a person to cite statistics to defend oneself indicates a high degree of insecurity and suggests some sort of complex on the issue.

reply

I'm not gay and it doesn't bother me much to see a movie about a gay guy. It's not like its porn and they're going to go any further than a kiss or whatever. I'm secure.

reply

Really ? Glad I don't live there. The move was very restrained I thought, and my audience of Australian straight (probably) , middle aged persons were completed unbothered by it .
