I've always written off the Amityville legend as a hoax, and after seeing this, still do (more than ever), but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the flick's craftsmanship. It looks great, holds your attention, and is very cinematic.

About 30 minutes into it I realized the filmmakers aren't necessarily trying to convince you of the whole Amityville story, but giving you a look at this weird, angry, and uneasy dude who claims to believe he experienced it all. I thought the film was highly effective in that regard as well.

I agree! It wasn't trying to be scary or convince us of really anything. Just a straightforward account of what Danny believes happened and why. Overall I still would have liked if it talked more about the house and possibly other people who were involved, like the writer of the original book, etc.

Agreed. People looking for more or posting "he's fool of sh**!" are missing the point. It's a total psych doc and you really start to see the damage that can come out of an abusive parental relationship. I think the "real" stuff that went on in the house is the real scary stuff.
I'm on the boat of well done and effective. Although, I have friends who didn't gel with lutz as a character quickly enough to want to watch 90 minutes of him tell his story.
On the flip side, I love damaged goods stories. So, this was for me.

It took you 30 minutes to figure this out!? Um, it's obvious from about 2 minutes in. Then again, it took me 9 months to reply to your post, so what do I know.
