Steve Carrell Does His Best to Break Out of a Stereotype


Nice to seem him playing an ordinary middle aged adult who is a cheater and abusive to his girlfriend's son. His chronic retard persona in other films was getting old.

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

I wish I was "abused" like that by my step-father. Mine used to like to beat me with a belt until he was too tired to lift his arm anymore.

I didn't see him as abusive. I think that's the great job they didn't creating the character. Yeah, he was a jerk - it's obvious why the kid hated him. But Trent was trying to teach him to be a man and have confidence. He didn't go about it the right way, but I think he had decent enough intentions. Probably how his dad had raised him. Yes, he was a jerk. It wasn't cut and dry though.
