Just watched this movie again for the first time in a while. It just occurred to me how cool it is that we have no idea how Duncan passes Owen in the tunnel on the water slide. It's possible that Duncan found a way to actually pull it off, but even more likely that Owen assisted him in pulling it off. The possibility of Owen recognizing what Duncan is going through and finding a way to make him feel great in pulling off a legendary stunt in front of everyone just adds a cool level to their relationship.

And it all happens in the tunnel so we never know for sure. Perfect ending to a great movie.

What I like even better is when Pam joins Duncan in the way, way back of the car to show her allegiance to her son rather than her boorish boyfriend, who she was going to break up with sooner or later.

Just a great, flawless film.

Great scene! I loved the hug between Owen and Duncan. Major goosebumps. Owen pulled him out of his shell. Loved their friendship. Such a feel good film. :-)

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I saw it many times in the movie theatre and then bought the DVD. I've introduced so many friends to it. Just such a perfect movie; great story, cast and message. I love The Way Way Back and I LOVE Sam Rockwell. I'll go water sliding with him anytime!
