Since when is Shoshanna smart?

Didn't she use to be self-centered, superficial and honestly kind of...dumb? Wasn't that a problem when she was in a relationship with Ray? Or am I misremembering? Now she's having conversations about politics with him. What's up with that?

 Language! The thing that means stuff.

reply

I sort of thought the same thing. Then just thought that maybe it was just their special connection since they had dated for so long. But it still didn't make much sense for her to be speaking about that. From him I understand but it did seem a bit odd to me as well.

I think Shoshana was always going to end up "smart". She's the youngest one, but a few seasons ago she saved Ray's business and she would have expanded her horizons in Japan. I'm not that surprised to be honest, she always came across as intelligent (and I loved her beach house rant!!).

reply

She was always smart.

reply

Took the words out of my mouth. Book smart but socially dumb?

reply

Yeah it doesn't really seem like she's the same person. But she was always at least book smart. She was a math major.

reply

She's always been smart. She just started the show a little naive. She now has a little more street smarts. But she's still flighty as ever.

reply

I've never thought Shoshanna was dumb. Immature, yes. Absolutely. But her character has grown a lot during this show's run. I still think she should end up with Ray. Marnie is too mean and doesn't deserve him. Shosh and Ray always made more sense to me.

reply

Agreed. I wasn't sure about the pairing a couple of seasons ago. But after she came back from Japan, it makes sense to me.

The only thing that may get in the way of it all, is that I feel that Shoshanna will be successful. And therefore, will mix with a lot of other successful people. Taking her away for the other girls and possibly Ray too.

But I do hope they end up together.

reply

Didn't she graduate from Columbia/Barnard? I think she was supposed to be intelligent but sheltered and shallow. She's just grown up and matured now.
