Not a single Oscar nomination?
Seriously? lol
shareA complete travesty, if you ask me. This film, and particularly Michael Fassbender, were disgracefully overlooked by the Academy that year.
shareWould not be surprised if the idiots looked at the subject matter and said "We are not touching that with a ten-foot boner".
shareYep. I really was impressed with his performance and think he's an incredible actor. This was the first time I really took note of him. I had seen 12yrs a slave, but didn't really put the name w/the character, but after Shame I was seeking out his roles.

Perhaps because of the NC-17 subject matter and the fact that it wasn't largely recognized by the public was enough cause for the Academy to just ignore it.
shareThey're only interested in movies that are popular and get people to want to see them. Shame is purely an artistic movie that people will either love or hate, and it's definitely not a movie that's begging to be seen by the masses. Unlike lots of Oscar-bait out there. I used to be disappointed when movies and performances like this were overlooked, but as I got older I realised the Oscars aren't as important or prestigious as they present themselves to be.
shareI had a conversation with someone who's an academy member. They were incredibly candid and put it to me as to how it works.
The order in which you vote:
1). Yourself
2). The movie you're attached to
3.) Friends
4.) Acquaintances
5.) People that deserve it
They receive an incredible amount of screeners. They don't watch even a third of them. The ugly truth is that they don't have the time to watch every movie and when the do finally have down time, the absolute last thing they want to do is watch a movie. It's like more work.
I had already had enough of seeing people who deserve credit being overlooked. Shame is outstanding and always will be, even if it doesn't have an eight inch golden di1do to go with it.
It's a travesty!! The Oscars hold no weight anymore.
It's ok to like more than one actor. :))
The Oscars have been a joke for decades, at least since the early '70's. To the Academy, "Shame" is nothing but a beautifully crafted, very well made porno film. Forget that it has style and substance and great acting, to them, it's porn. This year, it's OscarsSoBlack; it's not even about acting anymore, it's political.
