Good performance from Quaid, but poorly made and overstuffed

Saw it last night and it just isn't a well made movie. Tried to fit in way too much history for 2 hours and felt like watching a Reagan clip show or mini series edited together. You can tell this was a low budget movie by how cheap some of the sets and locations look. Worst of all it was just so dull. 3/10

Saw it today, no way this is a 3/10, it's better than that. And with that being said, it's fluff for sure. It's a very charming look at Reagan; the man, the myth, the legend. Lol...

Its certainly a 'feel good' film about his rise into the political world and his inevitable defeat of the Soviet Union without firing a shot. Surprisingly, I think democrats would like this film a lot, regardless of what you think of Reagan, it's a very anti-russia film, and they seem to enjoy hating Russia now days.

It's entertaining and uplifting for sure and I think that's the kind of film they were trying to make, and for that reason, I'll give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Democrats are hating on this movie because it's terrible. It's very poorly made and, as the OP said, way too much stuff is crammed into this movie, to where the actual events are so simplified it's almost insulting to Reagan's legacy. This movie is basically the equivalent of those picture books where each page has one sentence written in a way that a 3-year-old can comprehend.

Opinions vary...

Now, I do agree, they stuffed an awful lot into this movie, the run time is around 2:20 and it still seemed like it needed to be a 3-part miniseries with each episode about an hour long. That I will agree with, but for a theatrical release, I think it was well made, with fine performances from the cast, I enjoyed watching it. In fact, I'll watch it again when it hits the streaming services.

In all honesty, it accomplished what it set out to be, which I would call it a "feel good Reagan story". It's not a documentary, that's for sure. It's more of a poetic telling of his rise in politics, rather than an in-depth look at his presidency. If you're expecting a really hard look at his days in the white house, you might not be satisfied but if you just want to take a look at Reagan's story, it's good film-making.

Anyhow, I don't want to repeat myself, but for this reason, I found it to be a good film.
