The Fitzgeralds should have had a son too.
I think I would have made more sense if the Fitzgeralds had a son as well. He would be younger than Melissa. He would be acting like a spoiled brat whiner. Don would keep telling him to "hush" when he complains. He would probably be enfatuated with Casey in the same way that Kenny is enfatuated with Melissa. It would have made the teams even when they all played Win Loose or Draw around the campfire. Melissa would have had somebody to comfort her after seeing that "incest scene" in the RV. (Teens cannot always consult their parents about such things.) Also, having a son AND a daughter would give the Fitzgeralds the "wholesome family dynamic" they were trying to portray.
I wonder if there was an additional character in the original draft of the script, and the producers cut him out before filming?
