Is This Show Worth Me Investing In Apple TV Plus??

How about it?? I'm a fan of Godzilla older Godzilla movies that is and my favorite is GMK: Godzilla, Mothra & King Ghidorah in ALL OUT MONSTERS ATTACK and it's awesome and has Evil Godzilla and has a no fucks given attitude when fighting his opponent or stepping on people and King Ghidorah this time out is the Protagonist to reel Godzilla in a little bit..

No.

It's that bad?? Really?? Or is it slow and focuses more on character relationships and the monsters take a backseat??

reply

Hello. I watched a couple episodes last night and it felt like a soap opera with unlikable characters and hardly any monsters. I'm waiting for Godzilla Minus One to become available on DVD because it doesn't come to my towns cinema. It figured this might fill the void till then, but it is really bad.

Slow isn't the problem, that one of the few things I like about the show, but the show focuses on the wrong things. Most of the time two spoiled brats arguing and trying to find their father and sometimes they arguing with their friend and other people. Also one of the main theme is some dark mysteries in the Monarch, but they never mention what those are (I guess writers haven't figured it out yet). And of course when we have some secret organization, then we have internal power struggle.

But the bonus is that in every episode you'll see some monster, like for 15 seconds, yeeeeeeeee!!!

If you like storytelling in ten different timelines, then it's a show for you, if you don't like timeline jumping, then it's very confusing.

Cool thing is that Kurt Russell and his son playing the same character old and young. If you like Asian women, then main character is hot.

reply

I have to disagree on most every point. I do think it's cool that Kurt Russell's son plays him in the 1950s sequences, but that's about it. I don't even find the main character, if you main Cate in the modern story, very attractive. If you mean Dr. Miura from the 1950s story, then yes, she is very striking. Beyond that, I find all of the stories compelling, especially the early timeline. I can't wait for them to catch up with Hiroshi and find out what he's been up to, and I hope we find out how and why Miura chose John Goodman over Kurt Russell.

reply

No, I didn't mean Dr. Miura, I give her 7-8/10, Cate Randa 9-10/10. But it's a matter of taste.

When it comes to different timelines and timeline-jumping, then I didn't say that I didn't like it. BKB was asking advice is it worth watching. I just said if someone doesn't like timeline-jumping, then it's confusing. I don't mind.

About Kurt Russell his son. I insist it's cool :) It's so hard to find another actor who's is convincingly similar to another actor. Sometimes two actors are similar like Javier Bardem and Jeffrey Dean Morgan or Margot Robbie and Jaime Pressly. But Kurt Russell has very distinct jawline. Hard to find young actor who has jawline exactly like him.

"I can't wait for them to catch up with Hiroshi and find out what he's been up to"

Oh, I can predict that storyline easily. Monarch has been hiding things, there are more monsters, those other monsters are more dangerous than Godzilla, nobody in Monarch took him seriously, so he has to investigate those things independently etc.

You call yourself Filmbuff but judge characters on their attractiveness?

You give off strong beta male vibes.

reply

Save your canned "I'm triggered!" responses for someone who cares. Besides, where do you see any judgement of characters based on attractiveness? I pointed out what someone focusing on the whole "woke or not" debate would call out as woke.

If that's your favorite Godzilla film, I don't think you will enjoy this. This film is much more in the vein of the 2014 Godzilla film, or the recent Godzilla: Minus One. It's primarily a multi-generational family saga interwoven with intrigue surrounding a monster surveillance organization called Monarch. The human stories are deeply interesting, and extremely well-written, and I find myself counting the minutes until the next episode so I can find out where the story is going, but the monster scenes are minimal. When kaiju do make an appearance they look incredible, far better than anything in any Japanese kaiju film, but they are not the main attraction.

Silo is pretty good as well. If you subscribe give it a chance.

reply

No. It's pretty bad. Just finished the first 7 episodes and I don't think I'm going back.
