Old News Item About Polygamy-Related Fraud

I understand Utah has made changes to it's social assistance program in an effort to stamp out the welfare and tax fraud that was rampant in polygamous families but here is a good article from 2001 that explains how polygamy was a means to earning a fraudulent income that grew with every wife and every child a man had. This went on for several decades. In the 1990's some of the polygamous towns in Utah had over 50% of their females claiming welfare benefits as single unwed mothers. As far as taxes go -- I can guarantee you that THREE of Kody's wives file taxes as single unwed mothers and take advantage of any breaks afforded to that group. The current widespread indictments in Utah for food stamp fraud and money laundering amongst polygamists only underscores the fact that these people are serial-scammers who know how to line their pockets with ill-gotten government funds.

According to our POETUS anyone who can figure out tax loopholes and not pay any taxes is smarter than everyone else.

According to the law Meri, Jannelle and Christine are single mothers - no one has used the term unwed since the 60's and 40% of children born in this country are to "single unwed" women.

Yes, they file their taxes as the aforementioned horrid group you are labeling as the 'single unwed mothers' because again, that is what they are under the law and hell yes thy take tax breaks. They're polygamists, not stupid. However, your knowledge of tax law is limited as married couples get better tax breaks than single people. The Brown wives have accepted government assistance in the past, however, they are wealthy now, so that has nothing to do with them.
