Just UGHHHHHH!

WOW! So now we know that Meri and Kody have been separated for a year, maybe two. Meri told Kody to stop coming by the house and to leave her alone, now she's throwing a tantrum because he respected her wishes. The scene with her and Kody was painful at best- it was real and raw and gave us a glimpse into their real lives, and boy what a sh*t show! It's obvious that the reason they need Nancy (the therapist) on speed dial is because of Meri. She's obviously suffering from a serious disorder of some kind. She was blatantly gaslighting Kody during their conversation and I was shocked at what was coming out of her mouth and how bitter and selfish she was being. Kody is completely checked out of that marriage, and who could blame him. He's trying to keep the peace with her until the show ends and they can go their separate ways. I doubt very much that he has any interest in investing energy into fixing things with Meri- everything about his body language tells us that he's done with her.

The way Meri spoke about her problems with Mariah was very telling also- she was angry and resentful and showed zero responsibility for her part in the breakdown of their relationship. She had a horrible scowl on her face and spat out "I'm NOT willing to spend the summer like this!" meaning she's not willing to spend the summer having Mariah mad at her- guess what Meri, it's not up to you, and judging by your attitude now she has zero reason to stop any time soon. Meri is one of those people who wants to act as selfish and bitter and cruel as she damn well pleases while everyone around her just falls in line and takes it with a smile. She's obviously toxic- all of her relationships are toxic and negative- she doesn't have a decent relationship with any of them. She's in therapy with Janelle and now Kody, and her own daughter wants nothing to do with her.

On to Tony and Mykelti- God that was torcher! I feel so badly for Mykelti! Christine was a total a-hole! It's obvious she hates Tony- and she doesn't think too highly of her daughter either. They said Tony had been to the house 4 or 5 times for dinner- but apparently he's still a stranger to them?!?! I think most people will agree that after you've had someone to dinner 4 or 5 times in your home, you would know them pretty well- unless your just a self absorbed jerk and you ignored them the entire time.

I actually don't mind Tony, he's awkward and weird but so what? He obviously loves Mykelti and I think deep down he's probably a good guy. I thought the couple that Kody and Christine talked to (the pawn shop owners?) were bang on when they told them "They're in love, it's not about you guys it's about them, so stop being douches". Christine was sooooo irritating during that episode! How many times did she say (in her little girl meets bad soap actress voice) "I can't believe you gave them your blessing!" - 20 or 30 times?!?! And Janelle's reaction was just total anger! How dare they steal my precious Maddies thunder!!! Maddie is the golden child- we get it!

I can't believe I'm saying this- but Kody and Robyn were the only ones that didn't make me want to wretch!

How would you know someone 'pretty well' after having dinner 4 or 5 times to the point you feel they would be a good husband for your daughter and was it even that many? I think Tony and Mykelti feel something, but I doubt it's love. Christine might have been harsh, but I don't think it's anything different than any other parent would say in the same situation, except it wouldn't be on TV. I don't think anyone likes Tony, but they have no choice but to accept him.

reply

" I don't think anyone likes Tony, but they have no choice but to accept him."

Exactly, and they made that very clear. It's also very clear that Tony isn't that fond of Christine either, understandably.

Most of their criticisms though had very little to do with Tony and more to do with Mykelti- she's flakey and immature ect... I don't think it's so much that they don't know Tony, it's that they think that Mykelti is just copying her sister because (as Janelle said) "getting married is the cool thing to do now so Mykelti is just doing it for that reason". Pretty crappy thing to say. If I were Mykelti I would be extremely hurt at the way the family views her.

Regardless, it'll be interesting to see how this story line plays out and watching Christine squirm, lol!

I think Mykelti speaking to Christine in Hawaii was a shock. It appears they're doing more setups on Sister Wives than they used to, so Christine responded the way any parent would. I think they're right about Mykelti, however, I hope the Mykelti/Tony story now takes a backseat to Maddie's wedding and when we see them again, they will be all lovey dovey with him and accept him as their soon to be son-in-law.

reply

I have a feeling that's exactly how it'll play out.

Tony and Mykelti are getting married this month so it's unlikely we'll see a wedding ceremony this season. If they are back next season that's what we'll get.

reply

It's no wonder they have 2-hour episodes - next season they're going to need 3 hours. I think Mariah and Logan both graduate from college this year and at least one is graduating from high school and Maddie's baby is due just around graduation time. However, as far behind as they are, next season will probably just be Mykelti's wedding and we will have to wait until the season after that for what happens this spring. Then there is the ongoing saga of Meri and Kody, Meri and Mariah and Meri and Janelle. I suppose this show could go on forever now that they don't need to manufacture drama or storylines. 

I have to agree with Kody and Christine on this.
Just watching their daughter and Tony was so hard to watch. Everytime Tony said something, it was cringe worthy. Those two were just so immature and ridiculous, especially when they were discussing Kody recovering from one wedding. She was saying her dad needs a week to rest and Tony said something about an equity loan, I just can't.
I think Christine thought that Kody was just gonna shut that *beep* down completely and he didn't. I think that's why she was angry. I really don't blame her. I would be livid if my daughter came to me and said she wanted to marry someone she only knew for 5 months. 5 months is not enough time at all.
With Janelle, I think her reaction was purely the financial aspect of it. That is ALWAYS her first reaction!

"I think Christine thought that Kody was just gonna shut that *beep* down completely and he didn't."

How exactly can he do that? They're grown adults and can get married without daddies approval.

reply

It's seems like Mykelti and Tony were more asking for Kody to give them a wedding than they were asking for a blessing for them to be married. If I felt my kid was making a mistake by getting married I wouldn't feel right about hosting a big wedding for them.

reply

You don't get to pick the people your children marry. I still shake my head at my son-in-law every once in a while and he has been married to my daughter for 25 years.

Tradition says the the parents of the bride pay for the wedding. I am betting that Kody wishes he didn't have as many daughters as he does.

reply

Come on DD, you actually think Kody is paying for this out of his pocket? You don't think TLC is footing the bill for this so they can have it on the show?

reply

The show will have to be on for another 20 years if they're going to pay for all the girl's weddings.

reply

Ain't that the truth!!!!!!!!!!

reply

Now Christine knows how her mom felt when she married Kody as his third wife after barely dating. Didn't Kody propose to Meri after 2 months of dating and to Christine on their first official date? Seems pretty hypocritical to me. Not that I think Mykelti and Tony are making the best choice, but Mykelti is just following in her 5 parents' footsteps.

I guess Christine should just be glad she's invited to the wedding, wasn't Christine's mom not invited to her wedding with Kody?

reply

The circumstances are a tad different with Mykelti than they were with Christine, plus since Christine (TLC) is paying for the wedding, I guess she'll be invited. 

reply

Totally agree freyja!

Just b/c they don't feel like they know Tony that well doesn't make them jerks. Actually 4 or 5 dinners doesn't mean they would know everything they should know about a man that wants to marry their daughter. For all we know 2 or 3 of those dinners could have been with the whole family and seeing how big the family is, maybe they didn't get to spend alot of one on one time with him.

And Janelle's reaction was just total anger! How dare they steal my precious Maddies thunder!!! Maddie is the golden child- we get it!

I can totally understand why Janelle would feel that way and I have a feeling that alot of people would feel that way. I didn't get the impression at all that they all think Maddie is the golden child, but getting married is a big thing and she should be able to enjoy her times, its her time. If I had a sister and I was getting married and we were trying to plan my wedding and then my sister says "Oh I'm getting married and we're getting married only 2 months after you" I'd be alittle pissed too b/c guess what, now my wedding planning is be disrupted.

reply

That may be true in a typical family, but the Browns have 20 kids, mostly back to back. In their case it's unrealistic to expect each wedding to work around each other with a year buffer.

Also Mykelti strikes me as the type that's going to plan her own wedding without much fuss, a simple park wedding was what she wanted.

Anyway... who cares, lol!

reply

It will be interesting to see what kind of wedding Mykelti has.

reply

Sorry, but the only thing I agree with you about is "Who cares"!!
Mykelti has shown herself to be flighty and immature. Tony's comments made him look the same. He was in a serious relationship right before he met Mykelti. They gave Christine no indication that things were getting serious between them which adds credence to the idea that they are doing this on a whim for attention.

reply

ITA! I take big daddy's hesitation as....... let's back this wedding train up! TLC is only going to pay for 1 wedding every 6 months and since I don't really work, I need to come up with excuses to delay this 1 so I can make the most money off of every daughter!
