A Home Equity Loan!?!

So the son-in-law to-be thinks Kody shouldn't stress about the cost of 2 back-to-back weddings -- he should just take out a home equity loan? Didn't the Brown's have a hell of a time even finding a lender for their four mortgages? I'm not sure that a family with four relatively new mortgages is gonna have the easiest time finding a lender willing to risk adding to that financial burden right now. And no snot-nosed peach fuzz-lipped 22-year-old schlub should even be TALKING about the finances of his proposed father-in-law in public. That's disrespectful and uncouth. If they want their August park wedding I suggest they increase their hours at the pawnshop and Dairy Queen (or wherever that slob works) and pay for as much of it themselves as they can. A home equity loan!?! I wish he had said that to Kody's face -- I think we may have gotten to see Kody really lose his cool. How rude of that little sh!t.

If my fiancé had said that to my Dad, or probably if he had even suggested it to me, let alone suggest it on NATIONAL TELEVISION, I would have dumped him there &then! I rewound &played it back because I thought I MUST have misheard him, but no, that is truly what he said. What a joke, unbelievable...

I felt like Mykelti and Tony were both coming from a place of feeling entitled. They seem ignorant, spoiled and immature. The whole thing actually disgusted me.

Christine's daughter (I refuse to write or say her ridiculous clunky name) has a total lack of maturity and life experience. She has only been out in the real world for five months and she met this guy the first week! Her mother said it best when she explained that this was supposed to be playtime. Instead the daughter is going from the strange confines of 19 years in a big plural family straight into her first real relationship and marriage. No spreading of wings. No taste of true independence. She's simply trading one set of shackles for another set and she's going to regret it. Nevermind the fact that she is also clearly in competition with Maddie and I guarantee she will have a chip on her shoulder for the rest of her days if her wedding isn't everything or more than her sister's (even after Tony and her split -- which is inevitable).

reply

It made me LOL when he said that!

reply

Well, Kody has heard what Tony said now about taking a loan out to pay for the wedding, which I understand is in a few weeks. I wonder how the temperature is around the Brown household right now. 

reply

I could not believe he said that, especially on TV. I wanted to punch them both. But then I remembered how entitled I felt when I was a teenager, after growing up comfortably, and did not feel bad spending my dad's money, even wasting a semester of tuition at a private university without thinking twice. Now after being married for several years and in a lower income bracket, I feel horrified. Mykelti and Tony are still kids...not because of their age but because of their mindset.

Tony is not a teen. He's 22, and he's talking about spending other people's money that he is not related to, so that's a problem.

reply

I was referring to Mykelti, who I'm sure feels the same as Tony. And I did not say it wasn't a problem. It's a problem even if you're 16. These two still have the mindset of kids.

It's true, but they want to be adults and get married. I just don't understand why they won't be adult enough to pay for their own dang wedding.

I get traditionally it's the parent's responsibility to pay, but Mekelti knows that there are too many kids to make that a reality. I suppose her sister had TLC to pay for her wedding, since it was a first for the show.

In the meantime, the Browns needs to tell their children they need to scrape up their own money to pay for their weddings.

reply

If it's on TV, TLC has paid for it. The fact there seems to be a blackout on information about Mykelti's wedding means it will be on the show. It is kind of odd no one is talking about it at all. There was a lot of talk about Maddie's wedding when it happened. The only thing I've read is a tweet from Aspyn that said they had a shower for her the weekend before Thanksgiving. I can't wait to see this shindig. 

I may not be well versed in how home equity loans work but I don't think they've had these homes long enough yet to have THAT much money that they could get from a home equity loan. Not only that, I think I remember it being said that it couldn't be tracked down just whose name the houses are in.

reply

The houses are in the Browns names and there are no mortgage or liens of record so all of the equity is theirs.

reply

I about peed when I heard him blurt that out😂 He was completely serious too! If, for no other reason, these two should wait to get married, this is it!! SMH

reply

I agree they both seem entitled . I honestly think Makelty has something going on learning disabled wise and that is why they're so concerned about her where she just doesn't get it . I don't think Tony is and this for love. He should never have said Kody should get a loan. But even more worrisome is he lied tonight. He say w Kody and said he hoped she could be convinced to change plans then when with makelty he said he said no. He flat out lied. I truly think he is on the spectrum high functioning of course but he is clueless and that is the only thing to explain it

reply

Tony's stupid comment reveals just how immature he REALLY is, and has NO business getting married....to ANYONE (Mykelti either for that matter ). Their ages have nothing to do with anything....their maturity level DOES. These 2 are kids

reply

I just love that Tony was sitting around making plans for Kody's financial future. Sure, let me encumber my home for the sake of throwing a party for my daughter and you who have known each other less than a year.

This tells me, as casually as Tony made that plan, that he intends to financially lean on Kody in the future, I guess he is thinking Kody has very deep pockets. Sorry Tony, you are not one of the Brown children and in fact you will be expected to take care of Mykelti.

I also believe Mykelti has cooked this up out of jealousy over Maddie getting married. She knows very well this is Maddie's time. It's a wedding, not a camping trip! She is trying to steal her sister's thunder. She dropped out of the school she desperately wanted to attend. Now she desperately wants to get married. Let them pay for it.

Kody asked at least for some time to recover from. Maddie's wedding. Mykelti said "What's to recover from? You sleep for a week and get over it!" She had no clue her father wasn't talking about resting up. Add to that, she said they aren't waiting anyway. Very mature. My parents won't give us what we want so we will just do it anyway.
