Christine saying Meri didn't do her duty to have a lot of kids

Christine was kidding and Meri laughed with her, but I was surprised she would say something so cruel! They were talking about the fact that their family is relatively small for a polygamist family and that Meri didn't do her part since she only had one child...

Christine is also not very smart. I guess Robyn and Christine believe Meri actually did have a choice in the matter since Robyn agreed to be a surrogate but it is a lot more complicated than that.

I am not surprised she said something insensitive, I mean she is the woman who said that if one of the kids "chose" to be gay they would be in for a hard life.

When I saw that, the first thing that came to my mind was how different reality is for the Browns vs what we see and what the public opinion is - there is no big deal in the family about Meri not having more kids. Yes, it was an upsetting event for Meri, but she knew for years before the TV show she wasn't going to have any more kids and she had reconciled with it. Obviously, it has become a family joke and we the viewer bought all that gnashing of teeth and surrogate baby crap.

I guess after the catfishing debacle Meri feels like she's got to take everyone's crap and laugh along. I too thought it was exceedingly cruel for Christine to joke about Meri's infertility or whatever it was that caused her to only have one kid.

It wasn't a very nice thing to say. However, I don't imagine Meri would have been very nice to another wife suffering from fertility issues. I love how Meri always says if she could have she would have had 10 kids, it's easy to say you would do something when you know it is never going to happen.

I think it is a family joke - I don't think they would joke about that if they knew it would hurt her feelings.

reply

I hope so. I don't see how it wouldn't though. I think she miscarried several.

reply

I think it was actually Robyn that blurted it out first, then the others laughed and kind of joined in.
