Truely's speech

I'm sorry, that one brief part where she was talking about the wedding had me absolutely cringing. I know someone before mentioned her type of speech was very common and essentially "not a big deal" and she'll grow out of it. Yeah, not so much. As a mother myself and someone with experience around all my nieces and nephews, I can assure you if a child's speech is THAT horrific at that age, she needs speech therapy. It won't just "go away." I've seen/met kids who spoke like that at that age and as teenagers they still had a noticeable bit of the "baby talk" sound. And that was WITH THERAPY. I'm obviously not sure if they're already getting her help, but my god, I hope they are. That poor girl will be made fun of. It sounds ridiculous and it isn't that difficult to also practice proper speech exercises at home with your child as well. I'm sorry if this sounds rude, but it does annoy me at bit at parents of children with speech like that. Not only is it more difficult to fix the older they get, but you're setting your kid up to be made fun of. I really hope they are getting her help.

I don't remember if it was on the show or on Twitter but Christine has talked about taking her to speech therapy.

reply

Oh. I watch pretty regularly but I never heard it addressed. I probably missed it.

I've never heard anything about Christine taking Truely to speech therapy - on the show or Twitter and we've discussed it before. She's either in kindergarten or first grade - they should offer that at her school or a referral.

reply

I am pretty sure it was on Twitter and it was around the time she started school. It was just an offhand comment she made when talking about Truely starting school.

Im a teacher and it is common for kids to sound like Truly at that age, it's very reminiscent of a Boston accent and has a lot to do with the R placement in particular. Christine and Kody do need to speak to her teacher or her private dr about speech therapy to see what her specific needs are. But Truly always seemed a bit behind to me for some reason. It wouldn't surprise me that out of 20 kids there is one with development delays right now, and that's nothing to be ashamed of. They just need to get her the help now before it escalates.

This might sound mean and it's sure to anger some but when it comes to small children Truely has the hyper-light skin and hair color that I have never found cute or attractive on anyone of any age. It damn-near borders on looking albino. She looks like a lot of young children in Norway, Sweden, and Finland do which is odd seeing as she isn't Scandinavian. Sometimes the skin and hair tone darkens with age and in her case I sure hope so because when taken in concert with her speech impediment I can't help but feel she looks and sounds, er...unfortunate. Not a good-looking kid that one. Sorry.

reply

I guess its the eye of the beholder thing, but I think Truely is absolutely adorable, has been since she was a toddler. She does need speech therapy.

You never know. The vast majority of the early converts to the Mormon Church were from Scandinavia, Germany, Holland, England, and Scotland, all of which can be blond haired and blue eyed. Per capita Utah has more blonds than any state in the nation, even Wisconsin, which is predominantly Scandinavian.

I think she is really cute and she looks perfectly normal to me; however, I am Norwegian/Scots/German. I was born a towhead, as were most of my kids.

reply

Uhhhh....I have to agree. She has that really thick brow bone that's never attractive on women, she was bald most of her life up until a few short years ago, she has what looks like no brow hair which always makes people look crazy. What's funny is that Aspyn looked similar to Truly when she was her age and I think Aspyn is very pretty now, so maybe Truly has to grow into her looks. We'll see. I think Ysabel is a pretty girl too. Gwen has to grow into her looks some more

reply

I think she's adorable and also all the Brown kids are or were towheads. We just don't know because either their hair has darkened or they goth it up. 

From the standpoint of someone that was a towhead (and has raised children born as towheads), blond hair can change a lot over the years. I was blonde to strawberry blond (blonde with gold highlights) from throughout my childhood to my late 20's. My hair got darker in my 30's and 40's, but in the sun it still looked mainly blonde with red highlights. Now that I am into my 60's my darker hair looks grey and the blonde hair looks white.

Never does natural hair look like the older Brown girls, unless they were born in Romania and never had blonde hair. People who were born towheads should never dye their hair dark. It makes then look anemic or like they are auditioning for a vampire movie.

My grandson is a perfect example. I understood his being goth, it was a statement. But someone with blonde hair and fair skin, dying their hair coal black is just wrong.

I also come from a towhead clan. My one brother's hair was so white, he was like some posters think about Truely. My mother said people used to stare at him when he was small. He also has a thick head of hair and you can't even tell he has gray hair because it blends in with the blonde. I hate him.

reply

Did you ever notice how much Maddie looks like Janelle when her hair is blonde? I wonder if subconsciously that is why she always dyes it dark??

reply

My own kids all had tons of hair when they were babies and young kids ((even my 2 blond haired kids), so to me, kids with little hair or super light hair look kind of funny. Must be an eye of the beholder issue, because I see a lot of babies at work and even though all are cute because they're babies, I am partial to the ones with a full head o hair.

My one niece was born with blonde hair. It was weird. She turned 15 yesterday and her hair is still very light blonde.
